This was a short but helpful read. More than anything, the author provided encouragement, but the author also brought clarity to a few areas that I need to get more clear on myself.

I've read/own several John C. Maxwell books, but Put Your Dreams to the Test is by far my favorite. While most books by Maxwell are aimed primarily at leaders, this book is for dreamers, and specifically, dreamers who really want to see their dreams become reality! I've read a number of books of this type and by far this is the most practical, helpful and honest book I've seen. By answering his ten questions, your dream becomes clearer and more tangible to the point of finally just following through and making it happen!Working through the ten questions in this book is not easy, but it is helpful to have such a clear game plan to follow. It is also widely applicable, whether you want to start a new business or work toward being a better mother, or in my personal case, laying the foundation for a ministry. While I have grown tired of reading stories and quotes from other people in Maxwell's other books, the ones in this book were particularly helpful and time allotted for them was better balanced with the practical advice. This book is going to become the graduation gift that I give to all graduates, especially the ones with big dreams. There is no doubt we all have dreams. Yet, for many those dreams seem untouchable or hard to capture in the real world. John Maxwell strives to help us connect the dots with a practical book that can be a huge benefit to all of us "dreamers."Now to be fair, I used to be an avid John Maxwell fan back in the 90's. John's teachings were beneficial. That being said, it's been a longtime since I've read one of John's books. Which Is why I decided to read this book and hear John's thoughts on leadership a decade later!In Put Your Dreams to the Test, John ask 10 key questions:1. The Ownership Question: Is my dream really my Dream?2. The Clarity Question: Do I clearly see my dream?3. The Reality Question: Am I depending on factors within my control to achieve my dream?4. The Passion Question: Does my dream compel me to follow it?5. The Pathway Question: Do I have a strategy to reach my dream?6. The People Question: Have I included the people I need to realize my dream?7. The Cost Question: Am I willing to pay the price for my dream?8. The Tenacity Question: Am I moving closer to my dream?9. The Fulfillment Question: Does working toward my dream bring satisfaction?10. The Significance Question: Does my dream benefit others?In each chapter, John gives us some very practical ways that will help the reader process and think-through our personal dreams that we may have. While none of the information is ground-breaking or new, there is a lot of good reminders and thoughts that trigger's one's thinking and brings some good clarification.John's passion is to help the reader learn how to manage our dreams and lead it well and this book will help you do just that.

In his usual style simplistic, detailed with plenty of examples to relate to! Shocking revelations about dreamers like me who never step out to actually live our dreams waiting for the right moment which never will come.Reading this book awakened my spirit to pursue my dreams but also brought insight to reason that there is sacrifice to make and funds to incur in this dream. The question really is will I step out to take my place in the dream?My imagination was raised as I discovered that the dream surpasses and exceeds me, it goes beyond me and the purpose could as well be universal bringing healing to those less fortunate than myself. I guess we wait and see if I will take this new insight and actually step out to start living my life and not sit down behind a desk pretending to live and enjoy doing what I am doing now.On the whole, it is a great read indeed! I guess it is one of the reasons why I will keep reading even on my death bed! There is no substitute to a well researched and written hard cover book! Simply none.

There is a line from a Harry Chapin song that goes, "Good dreams don't come cheap you have to pay for them, if you just dream while your asleep there is no way for them, to come alive, to survive".This book covers questions to ask yourself to decide if your just dreaming when you're a sleep, or do you have what it takes to make them come alive, and then guidance to help make your dreams survive.I create e-learning in the Seattle market, and I am very aware of how topics are taught and John Maxwell is always an interesting teacher. He introduces the topic, tells a story, a personal experience from someone he knows or read about and then goes in greater detail of topic. At the end are the questions and you learning about yourself in pursuit of your dreams through the questions. A time to think and say, alright I am right on target or I need improve here if my dream is to come alive, to survive. We all have dreams, but only a few act on them in an educational way. This book makes you think, and that's a good thing:)I have read 6 of Mr. Maxwell's books and this one was the best. Everybody who wants to take a step towards one of their dreams should read it.
