Idris Elba shines in this electrifying crime drama
If you're looking for a gritty, intense, and downright addictive crime drama, then Luther: The Complete Series is definitely worth checking out. Starring the incomparable Idris Elba as the titular character, this British TV series follows the exploits of John Luther, a brilliant and complex detective working for the London police department. One of the things that sets Luther apart from other crime dramas is its fearless approach to storytelling. The show isn't afraid to tackle some dark and disturbing subject matter, including serial killers, sadistic murderers, and other unsavory characters. But what really sets the show apart is its willingness to delve into the psychological complexities of its characters, particularly Luther himself.Idris Elba is simply phenomenal in this role, delivering a performance that is both commanding and nuanced. He brings an intensity and gravitas to the character that makes him incredibly compelling to watch, even when he's doing some questionable things. The supporting cast is also top-notch, including Ruth Wilson as the enigmatic and dangerous Alice Morgan, and Dermot Crowley as Luther's wise but weary boss.In terms of production values, Luther is a visual feast, with stunning cinematography and a slick, stylish aesthetic that perfectly captures the gritty and dangerous world of the show. The writing is also top-notch, with sharp dialogue, clever plotting, and plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.Overall, if you're a fan of crime dramas or just looking for a show that will keep you hooked from start to finish, then Luther: The Complete Series is definitely worth a watch. With its unforgettable performances, gripping storylines, and stylish visuals, it's one of the best crime dramas out there.

Great show and great deal
I got this as a Amazon return so it was like eight dollars cheaper than buying a new, and the only thing that was wrong with. It is the portion in the middle that holds the disk into its position was broke on three of them. Which is OK with me because I was putting them into a book anyways! Great seller

Great Series!
This is a great detective drama series, with outstanding performances by Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson. Also a fine supporting cast with Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley, Patrick Malahide and others. Luther is a cop who isn't above bending the rules to catch the bad guys. Ruth Wilson is simply fantastic as Alice Morgan, whom Luther meets when she is a murder suspect in the very first episode. Their relationship evolves throughout the series--strange, edgy, scary, sexy, or as Alice describes it: they are "simpatico." Or, as Luther says, "You are who you are, and I am who I am."One comment I read (not on this site) said that without Ruth Wilson, this would be just another cop show. I agree with that, but hasten to add that it would still be quite a good cop show. The chemistry between Idris and Wilson is palpable. As played by Wilson, Alice Morgan is brilliant, dangerous, sexy, and wickedly funny. To put it another way, she is so bad, she's good.I did see some of the serial crimes and the perps as a little over the top. Then again, Luther does work in a police unit called "Serial and Serious," so this is a minor complaint. For my money the series should have ended with the finale of season three. A satisfying conclusion, and even the closing theme song by the Black Keys was perfect. But that's not the first time this has happened to Ruth Wilson. In my opinion The Affair should have ended after season one. But I understand the powers that be realize they have a winner on their hands, and so they continue, only to have the storylines wander off down too many sideroads, shedding quality along the way. I don't mean to say that Luther seasons 4 and 5 are bad, but they don't measure up to season 3, and I just hated the way the series ended.Still, I strongly recommend this series for the memorable performance by Ruth Wilson.

Impressive, gritty drama
John Luther is the insightful Cop you want to solve the darkest of crimes in the city. He does this by bending some rulers which makes him a target by those who can't. Thrilling and interesting is this series :)

Okay, it's well done. It's just too evil.
BBC shows are becoming more insensitive in portraying humanity in the most brutal way. In an era that needs hope and help, these scripts are written to appeal to man's darkness. So what if the actors or the series won awards. Even a favourite of mine, Paul McGann said yes to being part of such s violent show. I feel sick just watching it but compelled to see what happens next. There's the hook... Fear
