Product Description 1989 Mercury label edition (a division of Polygram), of Avalon Sunset by Van Morrison. Original 10 track CD release. .com When R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe wrote "That's me in the spotlight / Losing my religion," he could have been singing about Van Morrison, the man who lost his three times within a decade. In the end, though, Van returned to Christ and found himself rewarded with his first British Top 20 hit. With its sparse piano hook and Cliff Richard's guest vocals, "Whenever God Shines His Light" is a misleading beginning for an album awash in the kind of sentimental orchestration that might hurt one's teeth were it not for its perpetrators' almost childlike wonder. Cynics, then, needn't concern themselves with love songs like "Have I Told You Lately" and "Orangefield"--both of which suggest that, despite his renewal of faith, Morrison's muse isn't purely metaphysical. Even better is the spoken-word reverie "Coney Island," in which a grown man can be heard extolling the virtues of potted herrings. Naturally, it's the best thing here. --Peter Paphides

Good condition
This was a Christmas gift request from my Dad. It was exactly what he wanted and arrived quickly. The cd was used (which I knew) and in good condition with no scratches on the disk. It plays perfectly! There were some minor scratches and rubs on the case, but this was no big deal to us.

Van Took Me To Church I Died There & Went To Heaven
I am not a religious man, that Sunday school stuff just sends me running for the hills. But after Listening to to this beautiful CD. I know there is a god and he lives in Van's Music. By the last track the tears just came streaming down my face and there was nothing I could do but let it happen. I am blessed that music like this could touch my hardened Heart in such a way.

I just love this album
Back in the day a friend had this album and I heard it more than a few times. The Cliff opener jarred with the rest of the album, but the highlight, for a 20-something in the midst of an unrequited love, was Have I told You Lately.Fast forward to now, and a 50-something listener who has just re-acquainted himself with this work, my view of this album has changed. the Cliff opener still jars with me (sorry); and the charm of "Have I Told You ..." has dimmed somewhat. However, and maybe this is an age thing, the sentimentality of this album hits home perfectly. Tracks like "These are the Days", "Coney Island", and "Orangefield" hit the perfect balance of sentimentality without becoming mawkish. My favourite is a close call between "These are the Days" and the slightly jaded "I'm Tired Joey Boy" - the line "Pastures not greener, but meaner" in the latter being simple but genius.I own a fair few Van albums - although with someone as prolific as he is there are always plenty more to get - and this has a unique sound. Barring the opener, I can put this on and just get lost in the lush sound of the whole thing. It ends far too soon every time ...

Never ever again
Eventually the cd arrived and when it did I was disappointed. Although the item was used if I knew how bad the condition of the cd was I wouldn’t have purchased it. Absolutely appalling. Never again. Plus it took about 3 weeks to arrive.

Just love this, bought it to get These Are The Days track 10 but just can't stop playing the whole album. It's in the car, it's the first thing I hear when I turn on the ignition, and the last thing I hear when switch off - sometimes sit there 'til the end of the track that's playing. Such easy listening, simple and intricate at the same time.
