Marco Polo Box Set (1982) [import] [DVD]

I purchased this miniseries to see again the performance of Leonard Nimoy as the evil Lord Achmet, second in command to Kublai Khan, and his excellent performance does not disappoint. This piece does pursue historical accuracy and there are some other sterling character actors in the cast to move the story along. Well worth having!

Marco Polo is a masterwork, expecially for its historical reconstruction, that is almost flawless. Good actors, great direction and Morricone's soundrack create a great show.Unfortunately, this is nothing more tran the trasposition in dvd of A PART of the original tape (that is 8 hours long). There are many cuts to shorten the movie, at the expense of its continuity. Since no effort has been made to restaurate it, the quality is very poor, both in image and sound. Last but not least: there are no subtitle in English, just in Dutch.I'm disappointed to have found all these things only when I had the dvd in my hands. Even if I'd buy a partial show (since this is a must in historical play), I'd prefer to know this in advance.Anyway, the seller's service has been very good in dispatching and post-sale cares.

This is one of the most beautiful series that I saw in the 80s, it is a classic.I got this DVD from a Dutch distributor years ago because Amazon, Warner or NBC did nothing about issuing this series back then and it cost me then 50 euros. Thus this DVD is European region 2 PAL DVD, therefore if you live in Canada like me or USA you have to download DVD Free Region to be able to play it in your PC. Quality is not great but you cannot get the VHS tapes nor tape the series because is not in TV or cable at least in Canada, thus believe me this is better than nothing and cheaper that what I paid years ago. I have already waited 20 years, do you want to wait another 20 years to see if they wake up and make it better; that it is your call. There is other version for Canada/USA also in Amazon: Marco Polo (473 Minutes. 3-DVD Box & Ken Marshall, Denholm Elliott, Anne Bancroft, Burt Lancaster) (1982). ASIN: B001190SGK. I do not know the quality, but according to the comments the quality is average like this one but once again better than nothing.It is a shame that they are not bringing this into a better quality but at least we have it now. Welcome back Marco Polo.Warner Home Video issued the DVD in 2009 in Italy maybe has better quality but not in USA/Canada, shame on them.

saw this 20 odd years ago and loved it. was'nt disappointed at viewing it again.an amazing story, very well told and wonderful on screen as i remembered.
