Redman: The Kaiju Hunter

So Much Fun
I really had no idea what to expect from a Redman comic, but I was blown away as I read through this. The art is incredible, capturing Matt's style while mixing in influences that add a whole new level. I personally thought this comic would have worked great in black and white, but the coloring here is excellent if a bit washed out. The action is smooth and easy to follow with many creative panels. The references and humor are a major highlight, especially for fans of Tsuburaya's legacy of Ultra shows. There were many parts that had me laughing, yet the comic doesn't stray away from the original show's spirit. Even the narrative is built up in a way that keeps it interesting. But what really stands out is the love - flipping through the pages, you can just get the sense that the creators had so much fun with this. There is so much here worthy of praise. It's incredible that there even is a Redman comic - yet alone an amazing one. Fans, do not miss this.

Fantastic Fan-Love from an Amazing Artist
Matt Frank is the greatest American kaiju artist and to see him get to tackles Tsuburaya's stable of super-sized monsters is a treat for the eyes. I have been a fan of Ultraman for over 20 years and seeing the kaiju from that venerable series rendered with such love and attention to detail warms my heart. It is also great to see the kaiju killer Redman portrayed in a more complicated light with hints of some kind of mental turmoil rearing their head. I really cannot wait for the next volume. Thank you Mr. Frank!

A simple and straightforward comic. Not a lot to dislike if your into giant monster action and cool visuals

A cool reinvention of an obscure giant/tokusatsu hero
This amazing story presents us with a mystery, a mystery it barely seems to want to answer yet. And it is a very intriguing mystery, in that the title character, Redman, is just being thrown into constant fights with various kaiju... even he doesn't have any idea why or how. But regardless he doesn't seem to have any problem with his apparent 'mission', the extermination of giant monstrosities. But someone, or something, is watching his 'adventures'. There is clearly more to this than it seems. The most interesting aspect of this, is how it presents Redman in regards to his prey. He's seen by some of these kaiju as a terrifying monster in his own right, which is pretty justified, seeing as how he just seems to randomly start fights (at times) and brutally dispatches his opponents. The artwork is pretty awesome, but it's Matt Frank, so that goes without saying almost.I highly recommend this.

A Twisted Tale of Monsters and Murder
I gotta say first off, I am not a follower of the Ultraman series. At all. That said, I too got swept up back in the space year of 2016 when episodes of the strange strange show Redman was put on youtube. So when I heard that the maker of my favorite Godzilla comic (Rulers of Earth, check it out) was doing a Redman story, I was instantly sold.Anyway, the comic is a wonderfully dark and strange and somewhat meta affair. Like the show it's based off of, the core plot is something not explained to us. Things just happen and its up to us to interpret them. It gives the whole thing an air of mystery. Add to that, beautiful art that gives the kinds of in depth fight scenes you don't often find outside of manga and a somewhat muted art palate and you got a visual treat. The comic tells several stories, all of them very tonally different from each other. They range from horrifying to mind bending to outright hilarious. My favorite part had to be two monsters trying to get a team-up going with a third, more animal-like, monster and it just not getting the point. In shot, If you're a fan of monsters and want something with a dark sense of humor and a mystery that goes, at least for the moment, unexplained; this is the book for you.

Awesome and mysterious
I am a tokusatsu fan and I am quite satisfied with it. I also love the mysteriousness of the story like I’m I’m not being told something but I love it.
