Christy

This book is absolutely timeless. I’ve read in many times and never tire of the incredible cultural heritage and belief that every person has value.

I read this book when it was first published, even before the TV series, which I also enjoyed! However, I lost the book somewhere along the way. Lately I had been thinking a young friend would enjoy reading it, so looked it up here at Amazon, and had it again in my hands in a few short days. It's an amazing account of a young woman's adventure in teaching in an Appalachian school early in the 20th century, during which she was forced to learn much more about life and health and spirituality than she could have expected. And it's also a sweet love story--based on Catherine Marshall's own mother's life.

This is not a book that takes a long time to actually get into the story - there is action from the first page. Christy is young, opinionated, and idealistic, but most of all, she is honest about herself and the world around her. That is what I love about her. The other characters in the story are just that - CHARACTERS. Most are lovable - at least by the end - some are angry and violent, but all are three-dimentional and true to life. You find yourself growing and learning right along with Christy, and there are more than just "young love" or surface issues dealt with. Christy asks the hard questions about life and does not just give easy or trite answers. If you let it, this story will really stretch you. I highly recomend the book Christy and have bought copies for several friends.

It's the book I ordered but someone put a large rectangle sticker on the front of the book. I got most of it off but made5 spots where I tore the cover. Still sticky where the sticker was even after using a gentle lens wipe.There's a rip in the back cover. I don't expect used book to be perfect but putting a sticker on the front is terrible. It does have the all pages from what I can tell. Therefore I will be able to read it and keep in my collection. I love this story and would recommend it .

I was looking on my coffee table this morning and saw my three favorite books. "The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society", "The Help" and last but not least, my good and dear friend (I look at books as amongst my friends.) "Christy". The first two I have as audio books (so I can listen to them when travelling). I looked with sadness at my volume of "Christy". I had never found an audio version. You can imagine my surprise and joy when I learned that "Christy" is now available as an audio cd. I couldn't order the book fast enough! I have two copies, in hardcover, of Christy purchased many years ago. I wanted the second copy so I could yellow-line each segment that includes Fairlight. Over the years, I have often read just what I yellow-lined. I find their relationship compelling. I believe Catherine Marshall is in a Place where she can see my thoughts. I've read every single one of her books...and am happy to see that some others are now on audio cd. What an amazing gift!

Could have bought it cheaper elsewhere but loved reading it. Great story!

I'd heard for years that this novel was outstanding, and I knew an award for Christian literature was named for the book, but I hadn't read the story until now. I found it was deep, powerful, well-written and very enjoyable. I'm a lover of historical fiction and the window that genre provides into different places and eras and the people who lived there. This book provided a window that was unique and satisfying in the imagery created by Catherine Marshall, in her characters, and in the unfolding trials, triumphs and learning about life, love and God of the main character, Christy Huddleston--the lives who touched her and the lives she touched. I heartily recommend CHRISTY to everyone.

I bought this book for my mom and had it shipped directly to her and she just called to say she received it today -- much earlier than expected! She also said it was packaged beautifully! Mom is in an assisted living facility so these things mean so much to her and I'm so thrilled with her response! She's so happy and said she's going to dive right into it tonight -- just the way to beat the snow storm blues!

A wonderful book about Christie who as a young girl goes to the smokey mountains to try to teach the mountain people. It is a wonderful story that teaches us compassion and kindess. Also a very heartwarming story. I would think everyone would love this book. Teaches youngsters good values and how important they are.

I haven't read this book yet, this time around....but I was delighted to come across it again, and ordered it at once. I first read it many years ago,. Now and again a book comes along that you never forget....and like an itch that needs scratching, doesn't give you any peace 'til you've read it again...and again. This is such a book.... A feisty young girl comes to teach in a small school, in a small town.What follows are her adventures as she meets,and learns about the many interesting characters who live there, and the effects they all have on each others lives. Read it.....like me you will never forget it !

Bon livre, histoire géniale. J'aime le fait que la morale est respectée et qu'il n'y a pas de scènes qui ne devrait pas s'y trouver. Les enfants peuvent le lire sans soucis.
