We Like To Nurse

My son's now a nursing monkey!
The pictures are a little primitive, and the book would be better as a board book, but my son loves this book. At first he was not interested in it. But once I explained that all the animals were nursing, he caught on. He gets a kick out of the fact that animals nurse like him. I use sign language with my son, though he is hearing, and he began using the sign for monkey when he wanted to nurse, because he likes the nursing monkey in the beginning of the book. I'll ask him if he wants to be a nursing monkey and he smiles. He'll also put his arms around me, like the monkeys in the book, and he'll hug me while nursing. He only nurses like this when he feels like being a monkey.Another great book that I found is, "I am Made of Mama's Milk". I just found this great board book written from the perspective of a nursing toddler. The author is Mary Olsen. My 18 month old son loves the photos and the beautiful verse. We read it about 10 times at every sitting. You can check it out [online]. I just wanted to spread the word. I think this is the only breastfeeding board book I've seen. It is wonderful!

Delightful book about nursing!
My daughter and I love this book about nursing. I agree with other reviewers that it would be great to have it available in board book form, as the softcover is a bit flimsy for a toddler who is just learning how to treat books. However, the book itself is delightful. I disagree with reviewers who didn't like the artwork. We liked every picture, although it seems like the book may unnecessarily shy away from showing nipple.

Super cute
My daughter, who is 17 months old, loves this book. It was recommended to us by one of our La Leche Leaders and it did not disappoint. It is cute to see each animal nursing with it's mother just like we nurse. The illustrations are not the most incredible, but my daughter LOVES the pictures and that is all that matters. I highly recommend this for little kids who love to nurse :)

Sweet concept, so-so execution
I want to fully support anything that normalizes or promotes nursing, but I was disappointed in this book. I think the art is pretty awful. (Leopards, I'm sure, would be insulted by their poorly draw depiction.) Some of the text is interesting, such as a description of the baby elephant using it trunk to hug the mother while it nurses. However, other text is just a desription of the picture, such as "a baby lama nurses at sunset." I wish the book had been better done.

we like to nurse
A very cute book for teaching younger children how some other animals eat. Simple pictures, easy to understand. Arrived in good shape fairly quickly for a good price.

Incredibly sweet book
I absolutely LOVE this book. It shows so many different animals nursing their little ones in such sweet pictures with such a sweet ending pic of a human baby nursing with mama. I will most definitely read this one to my little one over and over again, and hope that he learns to love it as one of his favorite books.

but the pictures are not that great and it's hard for my toddler to see that ...
We really wanted a book to celebrate nursing, but the pictures are not that great and it's hard for my toddler to see that the animals are actually nursing. Plus it's a paperback book which is never a good idea with a very hands-on experimental 18-month-old.

Used as a handout for expecting moms
We use this book for expectant moms who may have other children. It normalizes breastfeeding in a cute, non-threatening way. Very simple to read and share.

Looks like I made it myself
It is a really good idea to encourage the acceptance of breastfeeding a younger child -- but the images honestly look like they were made with Microsoft Paint 1998. My toddler didn't mind though.
