Deaf Culture, Our Way: Anecdotes from the Deaf Community

I used this book for an essay on understanding the deaf culture in my ASL class. Though this technically isn't a book where it describes the culture and their ways in a formal and professional matter it still gets the point across in a way that most don't. Plus it's a short and easy read. It showed me things that no hearing person could ever fully understand without being told but made it really funny at the same time.

Oddly enough I felt some of the stuff here a little insulting to deaf people but I guess the one to make fun of deafness would be a deaf person. It is also just a tad outdated sometimes. But there are also some gems.

There are some very funny anecdotes in this book,there are also some that are very American and include outdated technology. But having said that, older deaf people ' pre-mobile phone' will have had the same frustrating experiences world over so it is still very relevant. I do like this book and even though I have deaf friends and am privvy to the terrible stories of the hearing worlds ignorance that they tell. This book is light hearted and invites its reader to have a laugh and not feel guilty.
