Critical Media Pedagogy: Teaching for Achievement in City Schools (Language and Literacy Series)

More pedagogy, less polemics, please
Should be retitled: "Innovative Techniques to Teach Students that America and Globalization are Evil". You have to wade through a leftist polemic to get to the minimal pedagogical payoff. Odd that these public school teachers will one day collect pension payments from CALPERS that, like all state government pension funds must do in order to make good on its immense obligations, invests heavily in equity markets, i.e. publicly traded, PROFITABLE (an obscene word to the authors) company stocks. Does that make them willing and direct beneficiaries of the evil free market system that they decry constantly to their students, and in this book? Yes it does, and I'm sure a closer look at each of their lives will show other ways they do as well, like all of us.I'm a life long Democrat, by the way.

Great and Inspiring Resource
Highly recommended for educators who want to make real change in the classroom. The author shows real examples of teachers who have transformed their classrooms. These students are learning how to make change in their schools and communities, by producing and creating new media. The book presents opportunities for critical thinking inside and outside of the classroom that are invaluable to teachers and educators everywhere. Truly inspiring!
