easy read, flowed well
Very well written, easy read, flowed well. Jan shares a window into a closed culture, how they live, how they view our Creators, how they speak and make a living, what their priorities are in life and how they treat "insiders and outsiders". Jan is open and honest.

Plain and Simply
one of the best collections of stories of life, love and the pursuit of happiness.... plain and simple. a ton of memories of my childhood came flooding back into my mind, growing up in Kentucky and cherishing all those great things that made me who i've become. you will laugh, you will cry... very good book.

Wonderful!
This is one of my favorite stories. Entertainingly written, it shines a light on the "real" Appalachian mountain folk that we constantly misunderstand. Thank you, Janice, for your story. Marilyn Smith Neilans, from East Tennessee, author of "Saying GoodBye to The Iris Lady."

Great Insight Into Appalachian America
I thank another Appalachian American, Mary Fraim, for introducing me to the work of Janet Holt Giles. Appalachian Americans are not southern - and our "ways" prove it. In her books you will find honesty and great compassion.

Great book
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read about the past, and hard times. A well written story, makes you happy that we have things quite a bit easier now.
