Daily Roman Missal, Third Edition

Excellent and beautifully bound missal, I haven't seen book binding of this quality for many years. The bible wording and translation isn't quite as the UK but somehow listening to the word and following a slightly differing alternative translation seems to enhance my overall comprehension. My only adverse criticism is that the missal came without the shrink wrapping and with a label indicating that it might have been a returned item.

It turned out to be an American publication not English. There are subtle differences. It would have been helpful if your ad' had indicated that. We returned it . Returns process very smooth.

Bought as a present for my wife and it is very good quality and she loves it. Well made and long lasting.

Very suitable

This is a handy, if hefty, all-in-one Sunday AND weekday missal, with Latin and English texts for the Order of Mass itself, plus some of the other texts. It depends which side of the pond you are as to whether the lectionary translation matches up or not: in the UK it is the Jerusalem Bible that is in current use (sadly - oh for the RSV or even NRSV!), and this missal contains that, plus the Grail psalm texts. On the other hand, the psalm responses do not match what is in every other missal in the UK, nor do the Gospel sentences, except on rare occasions, which is a pain. The real caveat with this book must, however, be the number of misprints, that rather spoil it. These range from simple typos to wholesale omissions of verses, which is irritating. I have been using the book for nine years now, so am well used to its foibles. If you reckon you can live with them, you won't regret buying it, but don't say you weren't warned!

Before I purchased this missal, I was aware that it was based on the American lectionary. However, this did not dissuade me from my purchase. The Collect, Eucharistic Prayers etc are the same but the translation of the Mass readings are slightly different. Despite this, I love this missal and well worth the money! I love how it's laid out, the several pages of prayers and the overall feel of it. It is a fantastic hand missal thatvwill be used a lot. In comparison to the British lectionary used in the CTS Daily Missal, this is much more convenient and lighter to carry. Maybe CTS should look at reviewing their Daily Missal and create a lighter edition. If one is not too bothered about the differences in translation of the Mass readings then I'd strongly recommend this missal! Worth every penny!
