Mobile Suit Gundam: THE ORIGIN 8: Operation Odessa (Gundam Wing)

The Battle of Odessa!
Gundam: The Origin returns to the present with volume 8! The White Base docks at Belfast and trouble arises as Char's Mad Angler squadron gets wind of it!Some spoilers may lie ahead! The book starts out with a slightly different rendition of the Belfast attack from the TV show. The G-Bull thankfully doesn't exist here and thus doesn't make an appearance and we also get to see Origin versions of the Gogg and the Zock as well! The Grabro also shows up and is slightly redesigned to appear more sinister and Miharu's Gunperry scene was a little more...violent. It then deviates from the show for a good reason to have Char cause a scene in his custom Zaku II to lure out the Gundam and have a final match! However, all it ends up telling us is why he ditched his Zaku II once and for all! The book then shifts focus to the Battle of Odessa. It makes good effort to flesh out the Odessa assault and really show the mentalities of both sides as well as a better conclusion to the battle. This version also gives a much better role to M'Quve than the TV show. It also concludes the story of the Black Tri-Stars in a more epic way.Overall, this book only continues the truly epic story told through the beautiful art of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. Extras are included in the way of art stills and a short write-up. Another truly fantastic release. If you're a fan of manga, you MUST read this!

We now return to your regularly scheduled One Year War
After an excellent three volume flashback to the origins of the One Year War we pick up where we left off in volume five, with the White Base headed towards Operation Odessa. The changes from the original anime as aways help the story make more sense (less seemingly hopping randomly around the globe and the plot flows better for it). The casualties mount on both sides as the war grinds on and touches everyone in some way. Even M'Quve gets a moment to shine, and it's glorious. The use of Solders of Sorrow is also a nice touch.

I now understand why Gundam is considered legendary
There are not many lines in this volume, but the fact that Zeon’s forces ware vanquished for now was conveyed well.
