The plug is removable allowing you to clean up the bottom part without a cord flopping around. But as with any appliance like this don't get it wet. I've been cleaning it out with a spray surface cleaner which has been working great. All that collects in the bottom is water from whatever you're steaming so it's not like it's nasty. Just dump, spray and wipe out.
