Great accuracy!
No wonder doctors prefer balance scales. I got tired (and angry) at electronic scales which needed batteries far too often and gave WILD variations if you stepped on and off repeatedly just seconds apart. This on is well-built and identical to the one in my doctor's office.

The Detecto Scales Are Now Manufactured In CHINA!
This will be the last Detecto Scale, I'll ever buy and here's why.First, you might get lucky and get old stock that was made in the USA. The newer stock is manufactured in China (despite what the product description claims.) Here's how you can tell if you've received a USA made product or one from China. The USA made product has eight screws that secure the post, four in front and four on the backside. The Chinese made Detecto Scale has a flange around the bottom that secures it to the base with six screws.[The change in manufacturing from USA to China may account for the negative reviews that claim it isn't as secure as the older models. The USA Detecto Scales were definitely all steel. What's puzzling is that several of the current Detecto physician scales describe it as being aluminum. Now that's a mystery.]The only issue I have had with the USA made scale is getting a replacement for the plastic cover where a person stands. The one that arrived with the unit has a missing edge on one corner (see photo). You'd think that for the price of the scale it would be a simple matter of getting a replacement, or so I thought. The vendor who sold the scale did what they could to help me get a replacement cover. The manufacture's story basically is that "We don't have any covers in stock, so you'll have to ship the scale back. Then we'll ship you a new scale." (I'm not exaggerating.)I thought I'll just buy a replacement cover, but remember I mentioned that they don't have any in stock and apparently don't plan to ever have any in stock. One reason I'm hesitant to return the scale I have for another one is that I don't want the Chinese manufactured Detecto Scale. Another reason is that the scale arrived in a damaged box and in no way could ever be used for shipping. There is suppose to be a warranty with the Detecto Scale, but judging from how Detecto has made demands for the return of the scale before they'll consider sending a plastic cover replacement, I'm not sure the warranty is worth having to ship the whole thing back--and good luck finding a box that will fit the scale for shipping it back if you decide to go that route.

It works great, but has the feeling of being made a ...
I was getting tired of the digital scale not able to show a consistent weight for me, while being more consistent with my kids who weight under 100 lbs. This scale solved that problem and having the height ruler is an added bonus for the growing children. My only minor complaint is that the metal used for the scale is thinner than I expected. I am sure that helps keep the weight of the scale down, but it doesn't have the solid feed to it that older scales I have used in the past. It works great, but has the feeling of being made a bit light. I wouldn't say flimsy, but it doesn't have that solidly built feeling I was expecting. Still a great scale and better alternative to the $40 digital scale.

No electronics to mess up.
I used to work for a guy thT gD a weight loss clinic in addition to an electrical business. If jobs were slow I would pick up a bunch of these assemble them and deliver them to my employers weight loss clinics.i liked the. So well I bought two for myself. Over the years they eventually disappeared on me.i probably gave them away to relatives. I bought this one to replace the one I lost over the years. I like these because they are mechanical with no electronics to fowl up and can be easily recalibrated.the seem to be good sturdy quality. I just wish I had held onto the two I bought in 1979 for $150. This one was about $250 for o n e lol. But if you want good product you pay good price. I just miss 1979 dollars.lol

Always Get a True Reading!
My last Detecto I owned for more than 30 years, but sadly, I had to leave it behind when I moved across the country. I am so glad to have a Detecto again! The portable scales were never dependable, I got different reads depending on where I placed the scale. But with my Detecto? I always know I have a true reading

No good
Don’t buy this product. It’s a cheap waste of money. Would have gone into detail but Amazon does not allow criticism toward sellers. So…”Caveat Emptor”

Sometimes Analog is best!!
I mulled over the cool digital scales, but after reading their reviews - decided on a tried and true balance beam scale. With this scale the readings are repeatable with no fuss, and I’m always confident of an accurate reading. My only quibble is the gauge could use a bright red centering line, although the variance is likely under 1/4 lbs whether you fuss over a precise centering or simply tolerate a quick judgement. Not everything has to be complicated, plus if you leave the counterweights from the last reading, it’s easy to take a quick follow-up reading and tell whether you’re still in the zone without deliberating over an exact reading. I track my weights on my IOS health app, this takes less than 5-sec. So I get the trending and graphs with out having to learn something new. Assembly was straightforward and it arrived well packaged.

Sturdy and reliable
I had the version of this scale from many, many years ago . . . and I still have it and it is still reliable and I use it every day! So . . . I bought this one for my grandson and he seems to really like it, too!
