Jazzin' Up The Brass
By the end of 1966, when this album was originally released, the Tijuana Brass were a phenomenon. They had five albums in the Top 20 at the same time (which had never been done before or since), were on all of the major TV shows of the time, were selling out stadiums for concerts and even had their first TV Special of their own. This album was the closest they came to a real jazz album and they really started sounding like an actual band rather than a studio group from past years. They open up with a grooving version of "Our Day Will Come" that features a nice trumpet solo by Herb Alpert. "Mexican Road Race" has the signature TJB sound and even features a race car roaring from one speaker to the other, which was unique for its time. "I Will Wait For You" takes you to a smoky jazz club, whereas "Bean Bag" gives you a Caribbean feel, complete with steel drums. Then it's back to Bourbon Street with "The Wall Street Rag", followed by Nat Adderley's jazz standard "The Work Song", one of three Top 40 hits on the album - "Mame" and "Flamingo" were the others. "For Carlos" is a gorgeous tune and features some ominous vocals throughout the track.Herb Alpert's production work is solid on this album. He always had a knack for picking great tunes and creating solid arrangements, something he doesn't get a lot of credit for. This new reissue by Herb Alpert Presents has a solid remastering job by Bernie Grundman. The sonics are impeccable. Just listen to the ride cymbals on songs like "Our Day" and "Blue Sunday" - they're more crisp and out front than they were on the original LP or the Shout! Factory reissues from 2005. This album is a total joy to listen to!

THIS ALBUM STILL , STANDING ROOM ONLY
ONE OF THE GREATEST TIJUANA BRASS ALBUM. CAPTURES THE FREE SPIRIT AND DREAMER IMAGINATION OF THAT PERIOD OF TIME. VERY WELL ARRANGED BY HERB ALPERT WITH A GROUP OF MASTERPIECE COMPOSITION. THE ALBUM IS A BLEND OF SOUTH OF THE BORDER FIESTA SOUND AND THE MARDIGRASS / DIXIELAND SOUND. TRACKS LIKE "OUR DAY WILL COME", "I WILL WAIT FOR YOU" , "DONT GO BREAKING MY HEART" AND "BLUE SUNDAY" ARE VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART, REMEMBERS ME MY LATE LOVING WIFE ISABEL, SHE WAS A FAN OF HERB AND THE TJB . WE USED TO HEAR THIS SONGS TOGETHER EVERY MONTH ON ONE SATURDAY NIGHT, SHE LOVED THIS ALBUM VERY DEARLY. EVERY TIME I PLAY THIS ALBUM , SHE CAME FROM HEAVEN GET NEAR ME AND WE ENJOY TOGETHER , LIKE THE OLD GOOD TIMES. THATS WHY I LOVE THIS ALBUM, ONE OF THE BEST AND HONEST RECORDINGS OF HERB ALPERT AND THE TIJUANA BRASS.
