Love the scope of material covered. Many, many techniques shown. Hard to find a book that deals only with fabric surface design. This book covers stamping, stenciling, monotype, gelatin prints, silk-screening, image transfer, marbling, drawing, sewing embellishment, nature printing, relief printing, resists, acrylic spray. Each of these subjects delves into sub-group subjects. Great photos of processes and finished items for reference. Good book for the value!

Fabric Surface Design by Cheryl Rezendes is a comprehensive and easy to understand book jam-packed with instruction and technique on altering fabric for use in any fiber-related endeavor. The step by step instructions for each technique and the photographs used to illustrate key points should ensure success. While there is some eye candy in the book, inspiring images or step by step tutorials on how to achieve a similar look are not really the focus--there are likely other books out there that better fill that niche. If however, you are looking for solid instruction on using fabric dyes, stamping or stencilling on fabric, or using resists, image transfers, or other surface embellishments to enhance your fiber-related pursuits, this book is a must read.

I recently got interested in surface design and have bought 7 or 8 very good books on the topic. Now with this book, my library is complete. If I had bought Fabric Surface Design first, I wouldn't have bought most of the others. Every possible tool for surface design is described with benefits and limitations, methods and alternatives clearly described, and product recommendations. The illustrations are excellent and the profiles of several fabric artists are interesting.

First let me say that I am not an artist, only a hobbyist.The author covers many, many techniques for fabric design. The instructions are written simply, for a novice to follow, and although I haven't attempted any of her instructions yet, they are well explained and I do not foresee any problems following them. I enjoyed the profiles of fiber artists with their work, and I appreciate the color theory review. She gives a great list of references and sources, which will be a future treasure hunt for me.I do wish the techniques went a little deeper and broader, for example tips or instructions on how to combine several techniques.

This book has every possible technique you can think of for making your own fabric. The techniques can be used for making art cloth fabric, clothing, quilts, hand bags and anything else you can make with fabric.Easy to follow directions and clear photo's a very useful book for any fabric artist studio! I'll be going to it for years to come.

There are numerous books out on textile surface decoration and treatment, but I think that this book offers new insights for old solutions. I have been in the hand painted silk design business since 1987 and am always experimenting and looking for new ideas of textile treatment design. I came across this book and know that it will be a great reference guide for new designs.

Wow!This is an incredible book and so useful for learning the breadth of skills necessary for working with textiles. Another aspect of the book that is so helpful is the cost-efficient approach to purchasing supplies.This is probably the best teaching book ever! Thanks for all the writing and illustration, I can move into multi-media work with confidence.

I am delighted with this book because it has SO MANY simple and intermediate methods that are so well illustrated. The pictures lead you through techniques and applications step by step in a logical and intuitive manner. I see using this book for many new techniques I had only heard about and stretching myself to do the more advanced for creating an art quilt, wearable art, garments, and purses.

Just starting out designing and printing my own fabric, i was looking for a book that covered different stamping and dying techniques and this is very good even though it is US based. She covers different techniques including stamping, stencilling, monotype, gelli prints, silk screen, working with resists, image transfer, marbling and drawing on fabric with good visual guides. There is plenty to try out and increase your repertoire if your new to textile printing, i am slowly working my way through them all. I did buy this as a kindle book but i am going to purchase it in hardback.

Has everything in it that you would want to know about. Definitely a great resource.

Brilliant book very comprehensive coverage on many techniques. I especially liked the Colour theory and the depth of understanding it communicates.

This is the book that I've been waiting for a long long time! Me who is passionate about textiles and fabric design, especially when it comes to the traditional Indonasian Batik painting techniques. This book is very well written and easy to read too and as so for the beautiful photographs and images. One of the thing I really did enjoy to read was all different textile paints available in the market and how to use them. I also love reading all textile artist ropfile, it was really helpful! A must must have for all textile lovers!

Lots of techniques explained clearly. Wish the process of making screens and blocks for printing was more elaborate.
