Good quality; chain leaves color on fur if it gets wet.
I have a 28lb beagle/border collie mix with a deceptively skinny 10" neck. It is really hard for me to find a collar that is the right length, but still wide enough to be effective for her. We are in the X-small category for most brands, and 99% of those only have 1/2 inch wide collars, which would end up being a garrote on my little bundle of muscle and energy with no leash manners! So, I was VERY excited to find the 3/4 in our size (her requirement) that also had quick release buckle and extra d-ring for tags (my requirements). The collar is performing well, the size is perfect to allow that little bit of 'chain noise' that helps to signal the correction behavior to the dog. After a recent roll in the mud and subsequent bath, I put the collar back on while her fur was still a bit damp and the chain did leave a gray discoloration on the white neck fur, which means that the stainless steel is tarnishing. Since I can't keep this dog away from water and mud, I will have to be mindful to just use it for training and take it off her otherwise. Overall good, sturdy construction other than that tarnishing chain.

Overall it is a pretty nice collar
Overall it is a pretty nice collar. I got it for our 16 lb Boston terrier in X-small size. It is bright red color with silky texture, looks much nicer than in the picture. All the seams are hidden or on the outside, so they can't rub/ create soars. It is also very convenient to have a quick release buckle, our previous martingale collar didn't have one because our trainer told us that they usually break, but our dog is too small to break it and his other non-martingale collar with a buckle never broke so we figured it should be fine and it is. I gave this collar 4 starts, because first of all it has a big black-and-blue company label sewn on it so it takes up most of the red ribbon (it is not visible on the product picture since it is on the farthest side). It's not a big deal, but I thought the label could be smaller not to cover nice red color. Furthermore, the sizing chart is indeed misleading. It says that X-small measures from 8-12" which I would think means circumference of dog's neck. However, it is just the length of the fabric collar, not including the chain. When you add chain, it is bigger than these measurements. Our dog's neck is 12" and you can't tighten the collar any more for him (it's on its minimum possible length). It works for us (though it's a bit loose to my taste), but probably won't work for a dog with thinner neck, because then it will be hard to get a tangible correcting tightening effect when the dog pulls. I'd say 12" is probably minimum neck size this collar will work for.Overall, i'd like to mention that if you are planning to use this collar and want it to work right, you should consult with a trainer who will teach you how to use it properly to correct your dog and stop the pulling habit. Our dog was trained with a Martingale collar so this collar works for him. The idea is not to have it very tight and strangle your dog. In the process of training the dog learns that when he /she pulls, the chain starts to tighten and its links make clicking noises. Our trainer told us to stop after three clicks and wait until the dog makes a step back in order to get some slack. After a while the dog learns and knows the clicking noises and stops pulling when hearing them before the chain tightens further. This might be a confusing description, but my point is that the collar itself won't teach your dog not to pull:)

Great Purchase
I wasn’t sure a Martingale collar was right for us, but boy howdy I am now! Several breeders and show dog people were touting these collars but specified they liked the metal loops. I did not want an all chain collar for my Silky Terrier. When I came across this collar I knew it was the solution I would try. Works great for us. No more uncontrolled pulling and walking is so much more pleasant. This collar is not obtrusive and I even quite like the look. Great Purchase! Thank You

Keeps a dog with a small head SAFE from slipping out of its collar. Great quality. NOT a choke collar.
This well made collar is ideal for a dog whose head is not much bigger than its neck. If you are walking a dog with a small head and it stops while you continue forward, a standard collar can slip right over the dog's head. This collar is designed to be loose on the neck when the dog is not pulling on the leash. It snugs up when the dog pulls. When the collar is correctly adjusted, the chain pulls as the dog pulls. The chain stops pulling when the fabric ends of the collar touch. This great design limits the amount of pressure on the neck. But it keeps the collar snug enough to prevent a dog from slipping out of the collar. If your neighbors misunderstand the collar and think you have a choke collar I recommend the version of this collar without the quick release. This alternate version of the collar works in exactly the same way but the chain on the quick release collar is replaced with fabric on the collar without the quick release. Canine Equipment Technika 1-Inch All Webbing Martingale Dog Collar, Medium, Black For the small headed dog, another option is a harness. My neighbor's little dog wears a Puppia harness. It makes him safe and for some reason he really likes it and feels more relaxed. Puppia Soft Dog Harness, Red, Small

Do not buy this product - the buckle fails.
I purchased this collar for my giant breed, approximately 1 year old dog one month ago. I chose this particular model because the side buckle allowed me to avoid having to squeeze the collar over my dog's giant head.Fast forward to this past weekend when the buckle failed not once, but three times when my 110lb pup lunged, leaving him collarless and untethered to his leash 😨. Thankfully, nothing too terrible happened as a result. However, if your dog is a runner, I can imagine her/him getting away from you, into the street, or worse. The scariest part is that the buckle still appears to be intact. Also, when I tried to stress test it and pull it apart, it didn't budge for me. This means that you might not know if/when the buckle will fail until it's too late. Also, the silky fabric that the collar is made of offers no traction; when you size the collar to fit snuggly it quickly works its way loose again.

Fits beautifully!
Excellent quality. The size is perfect for my 4 month old Belgian Malanois. She still has some growing room. I love the quick release on and off as it helps my arthritis to be faster and have less pain than the fiddling with a traditional Martingale. The thinner width of it is very comfortable for her.Arrived one day after I received shipment notice. Very pleased.

Works like a charm
We have a wild 1 yr Bernese Mtn Dog who has figured out how to pull out of his collar by pulling back suddenly and it slips over his head. This moderate tightening of the collar prevents him from doing that. We tried a choker chain but he pulled so hard almost to the point of choking. The collar is a perfect compromise.

Incorrect Length Description
I need a collar that is 15-16 inches in length. Specifically checked the size small length listed and it is described as "Size small adjusts to fit a neck size between 10 to 16 inches." I received the product today and the cardboard label attached reads SMALL 11"-14." Does not fit and being returned.

Expensive, but worth it!
So far, it's a great collar. Someone did point out to me that because it has a buckle it will eventually break, but the convenience of not having to adjust it up or down to fit over dog's head is well worth it for me. Great collar, but if you're having trouble with a dog that pulls, I would strongly suggest RC - Momentum Control Harness instead. Best way to walk my very excited and distracted Jack Russell.
