Favorite Stripes Matchup
I'm making a crocheted granny square blanket (called the Battenberg Blanket) with Red Heart Super Saver Ombres, Solids, and one color from the Stripes line--Favorite Stripes. Saffron matches the yellow in Favorite Stripes perfectly. I tried Lemon and Bright Yellow first, but no joy. I also came very close to buying a skein of Gold instead of Saffron, but Saffron is definitely the closest yellow to coordinate. In the picture, a square crocheted with Favorite Stripes is directly above one made with Saffron. I will say, however, that you can probably find a skein of this yarn for a lot less elsewhere, unless the price is currently at $4 or under. Sometimes you pay extra for convenience and delivery speed, though, which is why I purchased this on Amazon.

Too stiff and rough
Too rough and stiff. The saffron color is beautiful. Pictured from top to bottom is Caron Sunflower (my fav), RHSS Bright Yellow and RHSS saffron. Both the bright yellow and saffron are rough. Caron is softer than RHSS and my go to for amigurami. The Red Heart With Love yarn is softer. My favorite soft yarn right now is Vanna’s Choice. People say to wash RHSS and it gets softer. A little harder to do when you’re making stuffed dolls.

Best value yarn for blankets
I know there are Red Heart Super Saver haters out there. But nothing beats its value for the money and durability for making blankets and afghans for charity. Some say it is too rough, but it softens up very nicely after machine washing and drying. There are a ton of color choices and matching colors is easy with no dye-lots. I have no complaints. I've used it for years and will continue as long as it's affordable.
