From Summit Entertainment and Codeblack Films. Investigative journalist Brea Stephens goes on what is supposed to be a romantic getaway to a cabin in the woods with her boyfriend, John Wilson, but after a chance encounter with a suspicious gang at a secluded truck stop, they find themselves unknowingly in possession of a phone containing proof of the gang's sex trafficking exploits. Caught in the crosshairs of the relentless crew, Brea and John are left with one mission....survival.

I liked it
This is an intense movie. It has some touching moments between Omar Epps and Paula Patton, and I thought they had great chemistry. It speaks about a difficult subject. I think Paula Patton's acting in on par with the subject matter, considering her character had never actually experienced what she wrote stories about. It contains scenes of violence, sex, strong language and an overall tough, but important subject. I've always seen the importance of being careful at reststops during road trips, and this movie reinforces that thought for me!

A wild adventure
Brea the main character is an investigative journalist with a strong sense of right and wrong. However the story begins with her boss criticizing her reporting for dancing around the story and not naming names of the corrupt people she writes her stories about. As the movie develops and she is tested in a life or death struggle her confidence grows and in equal part her intellect and physicality give her the tools to endure the tragedies that unfold. It's interesting that her boyfriend John exists in this universe only to support and worship the woman he loves. His character does not grow or change in any way, he is solid from the beginning. I'm glad I clicked on this film because it was a lot of fun. And spoiler alert he next article doesn't pull any punchs.

Dark, Inconsistent, but Fun B Movie Thriller
Traffik is an interesting movie, as it has a b movie feel in a lot of ways, but also has a good deal of polish and a dark, nasty tone, so it is quite a ride that could appeal to a wide scope of viewers. The narrative is familiar and stumbles at times, especially in developing the characters, but it covers the bases for a competent thriller, which proves to be enough. Given the b movie texture and performances involved, the lack of a deep, complex story is never a concern, though we see some glimpses of what might have been late in the film’s run. The finale is where the movie really shines and shows some promise above a capable thriller, but the build up is rather basic and doesn’t veer off the typical formula much. The twists are a little obvious, but the tension is solid and the pace is brisk throughout. Traffik is also willing to get grittier and nastier than most of its peers, which gives the movie a darker, more visceral quality and that helps it stand out. I appreciated how the film spirals out of control as it rolls on, but I can see those interested in a more focused thriller being not as enthused. I had fun with Traffik and I’d recommend it those in search of competent thrillers that lean toward the b movie side of things. Visit my site for a full review!

Cliches, Stupid Choices and Convenient Plot Points Abound
This movie is average. The characters weren't all that strong, but I wasn't expecting them to be. More than anything they were a bit cliche and made stupid choices (Cliche: Darren-jerk boyfriend who flirts with the waitress in front of his girlfriend and spoils John's birthday surprise for Brea, inconsiderate friend who pops up unexpectedly at the worst possible moment, successful black man doing drugs; Stupid choices: Brea opening the door for the girl she saw in the bathroom and asking how she knew were to find them, Darren trying to negotiate with sex-traffickers who are obviously not open to negotiation, Brea and John running to nearest neighbor's house to as for help, not realizing that they were pulling an innocent person into a dangerous situation). My major complaint with the movie though isn't with a cliche character or the thoughtlessness of any of the characters. It is with the quick and convenient wrap-up to the movie. Blink once and you could miss it.Okay, so Brea is caught and knocked out for X number of days. When she finally comes to, she notices right away that there is a previously unnoticed nail conspicuously and CONVENIENTLY buried right where is has been placed. On top of that when the traffickers come in to the tunnel where she and the others are being held, the leader decides that he wants her for himself and proceeds to violate her. But luckily she has had the opportunity to swipe the aforementioned nail, conceal it, use it against him, then , and once she has the upper hand, proceeds to bludgeon him with a rock. Bad guy #2 notices this and CONVENIENTLY leaves the drug he is administering to the others unguarded to try to restrain her--opening up a perfect opportunity for one of the other women who has not had the drug re-administered to her to swipe it and use it against him. This frees Brea to continue her bludgeoning and once she is done, go for help.Once outside of the tunnel, after walking X number of minutes, the main character stumbles upon a gas station and realizes that it is CONVENIENTLY the one she had entered when she originally met the abductors. She enters it ask the cashier to call the police and the cashier CONVENIENTLY leaves her own cell phone on the counter for Brea to swipe, and CONVENIENTLY the cell phone as no password!!! The main character uses the phone to make a call to her boss who then calls the proper authorities and they CONVENIENTLY arrive just in time to stop the dirty local sheriff who had been in on the whole trafficking operation the entire time. HOW CONVENIENT!
