Fresh, flavorful
This is very good product, fresh , flavorful. I have an elevated Vata issue and it works like a charm. It is almost all that I eat. There is some protein there so coupled with a rice product and select spices, I make Kitchari. Tasty.

This is the good stuff
Split mung lentils without the green skins are the best basic dal you can make, quick cooking and the right type for receiving all those good spices. Much better than the red or pink little lentils often used for their quick-cooking properties. This product is just fine, so don't be grossed out by a few bubbles. It's normal for the lentils to get foamy when rinsed, and you should rinse them, even tho they are quite clean looking. Pick out any little black ones or tiny stones, though you are unlikely to find those. Even after rinsing, some foam might rise as they start to cook, and all you do is skim it off with a spoon, it's not a problem and doesn't mean there is anything wrong. In the very unlikely event that I ever received an infested package of these (I haven't), I would just ask the company to replace it, because that could potentially happen to any company. This dal is perfect for making kitcheri.

Good qualiy, but price is high
I bought this a few times, and every time I get good quality fresh product. The price is too high, hence the four stars.

Great for kitchari
I have been making kitchari after reading "The Hot Belly Diet" and other Ayurvedic books. This is the only dal I've used and I like it very much. I put 1/4 cup brown basmati, 1/2 cup dal, 2 1/2 cups water in my Instant Pot (electric pressure cooker): 14 minutes, natural release. Then add roast vegetables, spices and yum! Easy lunch or dinner that sits well but is filling and flavorful and, oh - good for me! I have also made it stovetop with quinoa - that works also (20-30 min).

I would not purchase again
I appreciate that the product is organic and pesticide free. However, I tossed it because the bag the product comes in appears to be sprayed with a “something “ (for instance, a fungicide has a distinct “sweet” smell to it, I am noticing it lately on many products) which defeats the whole purpose of it being organic.Edit: I just received 2 other packages, (1 food) from amazon from different vendors and both had that “scent”. So its looking like the delivery pouches from amazon these items come in are probably sprayed. Hmm.

Best Dal
The dal is excellent, consistent quality. Every bag cooks quickly and has a wholesome flavor. I like it on its own, but for my family and friends I put it in soups for protein and it gives the soup a heartiness that people love.

Moldy smelly mung dal
Smell awful, moldy shriveled lentils mixed in with good lentils. The odor is rough!!

Makes good kitchari.
Hard to find organic split mung dal in my part of the world. It is pricey, but, if kitchari is a comfort food for you, you know you must keep it in stock. This is a fine product.
