Printhead for Zebra GX420T GK420T Thermal Label Printer 203dpi 105934-038

We were having trouble printing barcode labels and no setting changes worked. I purchased the new print head and immediately the barcode labels were nice and crisp again. The head worked wonderfully. A simple fix prevented having to purchase a new printer costing over 20x what the printhead did. It was relatively easy to install by using a video I found on YouTube.

Bought 2-3 of these as replacement. We do direct thermal AND thermal transfer in the office. Works perfect when we do direct thermal, can print dozens, over a hundred labels at full speed.But thermal transfer is different. Print heads are inconsistent and all require different darkness/speed settings to prevent thermal transfer film from "smearing" and misprinting. After 10-15 pages of nonstop print, the head heats to where it start smearing and printing inaccurately to the point where its not readable. If you print 2-3 labels at a time you wont have this problem. But if you want to print a stack of labels to put barcodes on a bunch of boxes, that might be an issue. If you're lucky the printer will detect overheat and stop. If you're unlucky the ribbon will break. I'm using factory OEM zebra ribbon, and tried several "grades" Some heads just can't be "dialed in" to properly print many labels. Also could be a "duty cycle" issue though i own 10-15 printers.I suspect i need to buy a new printer thats heavy duty, or maybe spend $100+ on a zebra oem print head.

My shipping labels don't come out clear. They are spotty and not completely black. It's just enough to get the job done. A lot of times I have to print multiples and choose the best, darkest, clearest one.

This printhead is not the same as the original replacement (at 5x the price) – which comes complete with the plastic fixing and guide.It requires a significant strip-down to get it to fit the printer. Not a massive effort, but be warned.
