A solid workhorse of a hi-hat stand
I bought this stand about 6 months ago and I loved it so much that I recently bought another one for my practice kit at home to have the same feel as my gigging kit. I have played for over 25 years and have used everything from no-name el-cheapo stands to heavy duty double-braced stands. I played a Tama heavy-duty double-braced stand with the lever-glide action for about 10 years. This single-braced Yamaha hi-hat stand is just as durable and the action on it is phenomenal. This hi-hat stand is a workhorse and is well designed. The build quality is excellent and the materials seem very durable. The best thing about it is the action. The action is smooth and is adjustable from extra sloppy to very precise. I set mine to about the 3rd click from the bottom and it is perfect for me.

It's light, stable, and works with double bass pedals.
It's light in weight and easy to deal with. It's also tough and stable while playing. It does well beside my left double bass pedal. There's really no need to buy a 2 leg stand for double bass. This one works perfectly and won't break your back by adding it to your hardware bag. I've become a loyal Yamaha hardware customer.

Not up to my expectations.
I've had good luck with Yamaha equipment in the past, and expected the same high quality with this hi hat stand. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The good: The pedal is fairly wide, smooth and feels great. Overall, the stand feels solid and built to last. The bad: The rod is extremely short. If you like to mount your hi hat high, this stand will not work. The really bad: The stand is extremely noisy. Noisy to the point of being very distracting and extremely annoying. I tried lubing the moving parts, and tightening everything I could, but it still loudly 'clunks' and 'bangs' every time I step on the pedal.I would not buy this stand again, and sadly I'm am now wondering if I should ever trust and purchase Yamaha equipment again.

Excellent for the money.
Nice functional HI Hat stand. Light but sturdy. I'm not sure why so many stands have to be so heavy, this is not one of them.

You can always count on YAMAHA
You can not go wrong with the Yamaha, it's rugged, sturdy, double-braced Hi-hat stand with a direct-pull design. 11 settings for spring tension- great piece of drum hardware, it gives you high-quality, stability, flexibility, and convenience for serious drummers demand. And Amazon shipping and packaging the best. I love it. Thank you .

broken right out of the box
I would not buy this again, but I'm using it as a semi pro, it would probably be ok for a student.Right out of the box the clutch was defective, the seller offered to replace the stand and pay the shipping but I needed the stand for a recording session so I went to guitar center and spent $20 on a good DW clutch. I wish I'd just spent more on a more quality hi-hat stand in the first place. The spring adjuster is plastic, I don't think this stand would last very long if you were setting up and tearing down a lot. The plastic adjuster works but it does not feel very solid and I'm sure it would break if you were carrying it in a bag with a bunch of other stands. The single braced legs are thick metal and the stand stays put. Our drummer is satisfied with the performance of it as a hi hat stand so that's all that really matters. We bought it to use in our home recording studio, our drummer records with it twice a week and it's lasted for a couple of months. My next one will be a DW, that's what I had before this one (it was stolen) and it was very heavy duty, three times the price too, now I know why.Good luck and good music to all.

Another top notch piece of Yamaha drum hardware
I do have one complaint about the hi-hat stand compared to the medium-weight straight and boom stands. The rod that goes up through the stand seems to be a bit on the short side. I like to use my hi-hat fairly high, and it seems that this version of the Yamaha hi-hat stand has a slightly shorter rod than the older version. I have a used Yamaha stage custom kit that I play at church, and it has older Yamaha hardware that the prior owner purchased. It has a longer rod than the stand I just purchased. That being said, this is still an excellent and responsive hi-hat stand. It holds up well, and just takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Again, until someone blows me away with similar hardware that is competitive on price, I will continue to use Yamaha hardware regardless of the brand of drums I play. My home kit is by Gretsch, and I use the Yamaha pieces I've reviewed with it. I'm a very happy customer.
