Platinum Fountain Pen, Plaisire, Fine Point, Violet, PGB-1000#28-2

The Platinum Plaisir is a favorite of mine. I own two: one for my desk at work and one for my purse. The nib is a bit larger than I prefer, but it's a fair tradeoff for a smooth, even flow. I gave one as a gift to a teenager I know, and she fell in love with fountain pens from the first stroke. So it's an excellent pen for a beginner, but also a solid choice for a fountain pen connoisseur who wants a budget pen that can take rougher treatment.The Plaisir's reliable writing was a major factor in my original purchase. Reviews said that you could leave it for weeks and it would still write pretty much immediately. All I hoped for was that it would start up reliably on Tuesday morning after a three day weekend; the most I thought I would need was a week vacation.Shelter in place was the real test. When I went home that day, I didn't know I wouldn't be back in the office for a month! But when I returned, my Plaisir started up immediately. I was only working in the office once a week for the next three and a half months, but it wrote perfectly every time. That's better than you can say for most ballpoints!I've read reviews that claim it won't dry up even after nearly a year. I can't say if that's true, but I can testify a month is no problem!

There are enough reviews on the Platinum Plaisir are out there, to know what you are getting... A slight step up from the Platinum Preppy.The pen writes smooth for a $10 investment, and works well with the Platinum Carbon (waterproof) ink. It makes a great backup pen (with cartridges) if you normally use fountain pens for daily writing.That being said: If you wish to get a converter for bottled ink, you would be better off spending a little extra for a Pilot Metropolitan.

I tried using this pen to write a letter on Clairefontaine Triomphe paper. I used the ink cartridge that came with the pen (it was supposed to be violet, but it was black), but the pen skipped, failed to write on contact with the paper, and I had to cross the letter "T" several times before the pen would actually make the stroke; the same with upstrokes for the letters b, h, j, k, l, etc. I cleaned out the cartridge and filled it with a different brand of violet ink, and I thoroughly cleaned the pen, but that didn't solve the problem. This pen raised my blood pressure about fifty points. I fail to understand why it's so difficult to make a fountain pen--at any price--that works. I've tried pens from $5 to over $100, and I always use good paper designed for fountain pens. I guess the manufacturers know what they're doing though, because we keep trying and trying and buying and buying, hoping that we'll eventually come across a fountain pen that works. I'm very close to giving up. I have 19 fountain pens that are about to hit the trash can, and six bottles of ink that are about to go down the drain. One more crappy fountain pen and I'm going back to ball point, gel, etc., pens that work. So far, the best pen I've ever written with was a no-name, $5 disposable fountain pen. Sadly, it finally ran out of ink.

Nice pen but I was hoping for the tip to be purple not steel. The ink came with it was black not violet. Vary sad. But it's pretty and worth the 13 I paid with shipping.

No esperaba mucha calidad por ese precio, pero la pluma resulta algo incómoda de manejar. También me ha decepicionado el tipo de cartucho de tinta que trae, que no es nada estándar, y supongo que me costará mucho encontrar repuestos. Y no trae cargador de tinta para poder utilizarla sin cartuchos.

Textura muy agradable, es de esas plumas que, a pesar de ser muy baratas, gusta de manosear y darle vueltas...no sé cómo aguantará el acabado, pero por su precio tampoco hay que ser demasiado exigente.Lo que no decepcionará a nadie, es la calidad de su escritura, fluida y agradable aún con un punto muy fino. Ideal para quienes escriben con una letra de pequeño tamaño.
