I LIKE THE AVISION MIWAND 2 MOBILE HANDHELD SCANNER! (THERE CAN BE SOME IMPROVEMENTS THOUGH ...)
I LIKE IT! Don't know whatever took me so long to get one but glad I finally did. Will I ditch my Canon printer? No. I like the fact that I can crop pdf files in addition to my jpg files on my Cannon. Also, the coloring I feel is more in sync with whatever is being scanned. That being said, I still like the Avision MiWand 2 Mobile Handheld Scanner.PROS:1. It's portable.2. For someone doing a lot of research, this could be an awesome tool. For a genealogist it's amazing simply because you can scan photos from photo albums without removing the protective film cover or even from within a picture frame (the larger ones (8x11) work better since the scanner has to be on a completely flat surface (ie. glass not including the frame).3. Wi-Fi is a great feature! I had no problems uploading to my MacBook Pro via WiFi. All I had to do is turn on the WiFi on the scanner and locate the scanner's name in the available WiFi networks, click on the scanner and I could immediately select the photos/docs that I wanted to download. Speaking of WiFi, I was even able to download via WiFi onto my Android phone. All I had to do is turn on the WiFi on the scanner, and find its WiFi signal on my cellphone then go to www dot google dot com and viola! I could select what I wanted to download.4. I caught it on sale for $49.99.5. Double rollers are a plus to help it stay steady and prevent it from veering off.6. Colors on photos or documents are darn near perfect (See photo that I took of a dairy farm, a cigar box, a toad I painted in oil on masonite and a page from a thesaurus).CONS:1. I'm noticing a thin white line on some of the items that I've scanned (take a look at the Santa painted in oil on wood ... left side AND the Flintstones comic book in a glass picture frame ... through the word FLINTSTONES.) I will need to investigate the rollers (which also are sensors) that can only be cleaned with the provided cleaning cloth per the manufacturer. NOTE: I also downloaded a manual for a similar model in order to help me to become more familiar with the product. UPDATE: White streak was due to dust. Make sure the object being scanned has been dusted off (lint/dust free) prior to scanning.2. Scanning fabric (see mexican blanket) did not come out as vibrant as the blanket itself.3. Battery life could be much better. I can't really tell you how many items per charge since battery power was also used for the WiFi. If you don't use the WiFi, I'm sure you could obtain more scans.WHAT'S IN THE BOX:1. The scanner itself.2. A cloth pouch for the scanner. (I'd prefer a stiffer padded pouch.)3. 8 gb micro sd card with adapter4. usb cord (to connect with your computer to charge OR transfer scanned items). I would imagine I could plug it into my universal car charger that I use for my cellphone when I'm on the go. Otherwise, I'll just use my cellphone's wall charger.5. Cleaning cloth6. Calibration sheet7. Getting Started instructions (which also tell you to charge the scanner for at least 2 hours, or until the green light goes out, before use)8. Lithium ion battery pack model: NP45 3.7V 700mAh/2.59Wh (just in case you'd want to purchase an extra battery as a backup in case you're in an area where you are unable to recharge your original battery).9. Registration card.10. Photo Designer 7 - Video Easy disc (for Microsoft Windows XP Vista 17 ... USELESS FOR MAC USERS)11. Paperport SE disc (Can't comment on this since I haven't even used it.)Well, there you have it. Hope this review was helpful. Best of luck with your decision making!

Easy to use
Easy to use. I researched the available models before choosing this one for its double rollers and high dpi cabability. The double rollers help keep the scanner on a steady path. The small screen shows that the scan has been captured but it shouldn't be relied upon to decide if the scan was good. Do that on the computer where you can see the details. The battery lasts long enough to capture an entire photo album with time left over. Charging is quick.Buying a second battery and keeping it for backup on a long scanning project away from home wouldn't be a bad idea. I would definitely recommend this scanner.

A great quick to use scanner
A great quick to use scanner. Requires a steady hand to scroll it across. Not incredibly intuitive, but takes good quality images.UPDATE: the charging port broke so now it's useless :( didn't last long at all and the manufacturer discontinued it and won't replace or repair.

the rollers stop rolling after around 600 scans
The scanned images were great but the rollers stopped rolling after a while after about 600 scans of average 9x11 papers. Disappointing to say the least. I had to buy two to finish what I was scanning. I still have more to scan and I am wary of what product to buy because of this.

Great scanner, but battery life not that good.
I love this thing. It creates it's own wifi signal to send pdf files. You have to be sure to hold it straight while you are sliding it down (by hand). I was worried I was going to mess up the scanning feature. Nope. One of my scans was a little crooked at the end and the scanner stretched and filled in the crooked area. It was not bad at all. It has done a great job so far. The one complaint I have is battery life. Even with it turned off the battery wears out. So we take it out if we are not using it. It seems to use the battery even when it is off. But it charges fairly quick (20 - 30 mins).

Great scanner easy to use
Great scanner easy to use. The wifi is a bit of a hassle to use on either a MacBook Pro or an iPad.It took a while to get those two to connect properly. I like the added wifi feature, but because of the hassle, I think I'll simply stick to using the micro-SD card.

Great product!
I received this item within 3 days of ordering, super fast service. Description says powered by 2 AA batteries, however, the unit comes with a lithium-ion battery back and is incapable of taking AA batteries. The first usage, I scanned 62 pages at 600dpi in jpeg mode b/w (can convert to pdf with paperport) in order to view with preview screen. Through my own fault, I only have to re-scan 1 page. AMAZING UNIT! Clarity and accuracy of scans are great! Easy of use, super! Would definitely recommend this product. Awesome unit and definitely no regrets.

Good product!
Happy with it, not the big thing but it's a good price for what you get and I like that I can transfer files wirelessly. I use it almost every time with the dock (mainly to file my bills) and it works quickly. Unfortunately it doesn't work on battery with the dock, that's my biggest down point. The operating instructions are not so descriptive but it's not so hard to figure it out.

Mixed feelings
I've got mixed feelings about this device.I'm a full time student and books are very expensive, I've been looking for this type of device for a while now. It's very light, but it also feels cheap. There is a wi-fi setting, but I thought it would transfer automatically to my computer...it doesn't. You have to scan first, then turn on the wi-fi, then select the wi-fi on your computer, then transfer manually. And it's absolutely hell to do it using the wifi, the window where you select pictures is just really not working for me (maybe it's my mac??).So I don't use the wi-fi. I only use the usb cable.Charging takes a while and there was only a usb cable that came with it.To scan, you have to be patient. It has to be done very slowly and on a very straight page otherwise the image will be crooked or with dark spots. I wish they would've made it so you can scan horizontally instead of vertically. Scanning horizontally (from left to right or right to left) is not possible because it cuts off the top of the page.Although it saves me a lot of money, it does waste my time quite a bit

Only good for flat paper.
Works OK. Has a hard time when you scan close to the center of books. Image gets wavy. Really only good for flat pieces of paper.
