Bought some new ceiling fans and they required a 4” ceiling box. The existing boxes were only 2.5”, so I picked up some of these. Cheap and effective. Heavy duty and rated for ceiling fans. They come with all of the necessary hardware and good instructions. Just be aware that these are only .5” deep, so you’re not going to be able to stuff much of anything into them; for me, this wasn’t a big deal. It just meant trimming excess wire from my fan kit, so I could fit everything into the ceiling fan’s mount cover. The .5” depth was necessary for my install, however, since my home’s original fans were installed in beams that were flush against the upper surface of my ceiling drywall.

Great code-approved pancake box for ceiling fan. Wider than old-time original box, so I had to enlarge the hole in ceiling wallboard, but that’s not a bad thing.

Worked as described. Although I was not aware it is not to be used with metal-jacketed wiring ahead of time.

East to install

It is good if you have a stud to nail to. It is as described. Comes with screws.

It has 5 knock outs, it comes with four big wood screws to mount to a joist, it's very thin. Very good value for the money. Obviously you can't fit more than one (maybe two? check you codes) connections in it, but for a single fixture it works great.
