Great pen for first time user!
I am a first time user that wondered how difficult it would be to transition to a fountain pen for use in journaling. There was no issues whatsoever in adapting to this fountain pen! Very comfortable to write with and none of the typical first-time issues that I had read about. I paired this pen with a Rhodia journal because the paper is highly rated for use with fountain pens. Would definitely recommend this pen for first time users! I will probably buy more of these pens in order to have pens with different colors readily available for my use.

Perfect first fountain pen.
The lamy safari is made of the same plastic used to make Lego blocks, so it's very light and durable. It's also not too flashy and you won't mind scraping and scratching it, so it's perfect for n everyday carry in your backpack or pocket, and at 20 dollars a peice it's much more expensive then your average disposable Bic, but you won't be hating yourself if you end up misplacing it. Despite being plastic, with the cap posted on the back, the pen has a very balanced feel, and just enough weight to get your hand into the momentum of writing, but light enough to write page after page of notes, without feeling like your fingers needing to be amputated. I also like that it's not as flashy as other fountain pens, because it doesn't scream "I'm rich and I write with a better pen then you" it rather whispers that you enjoy a certain amount of elegance and art in your life. The pen itself is great. I got the fine nib, and at first I thought it was scratchy, but then I realized I was just used to writing with ballpoint pens and that I was holding the pen too upright and pressing down too hard, once you get into the habit of writing with fountain pens, you realize why people tend to switch to writing with fountain pens over ball point. You barely have to put any pressure for the pen to start writing, and because of this, you'll realize that your letters will start to want to connect to eachother like in handwriting style.

Lamy Safari: a Wonderful Fountain Pen
Lamy Safari fountain pens have quickly found their way to my heart. I was looking for a *particular* shade of blue for the body, and found it with this "Sky Blue" one. It writes smoothly, and with a Lamy converter, becomes a beautiful daily pen.

Great Everyday Carry Pen
The Lamy Safari is a solid everyday carry fountain pen. It writes smoothly and reliably. It's not super expensive, so if I drop it or it walks away at work I'm not out much. The end with the nib where you hold it has a triangular shape so it forces you to hold it near the sweet spot where the nib writes smoothly. The ink cartridges have been lasting me quite a long time. There is also a window in the side of the pen that shows you how much ink is left in the cartridge. All in all, it's a pretty well thought out pen.

Reliable, attractive, durable and easy to use
Lamy Safari pens are the standard when it comes to workhorse fountain pens. They write cleanly and they're always reliable. The colors are outstanding and each year there are special edition colors for collectors. They can use cartridges or ink with the optional converter. For some new users, the triangular grip is either really helpful or annoying. I'll leave that feature's worth up to the user. I have six Safaris in different nib sizes and each one's just as reliable as the other ones. They're reasonably priced and very durable.

Not a smooth writing experience
I had not used Lamy for a few decades and I was going to give this as a gift. The item I received was of the wrong color but that is not the disappointing part. I put the cartridge in, waited for a long time before it infused to the nib and when I used it to write a few words, it felts as if I was writing with a piece of unpolished wood. It was just so disappointing!______Update: 4 days laterIt is writing better, and the ink is oozing more consistently. However, it is still not a smooth writing especially when I go left to right. It even makes a distinctive noise, and you get the non-smooth feeling under your finger. It might be that the nib is damages or something.

Smooth flowing, doesn't skip or smudge
I love this pen! In fact I love these pens so much that this is the second one that I have bought. My first one is royal blue, and I might just buy myself a yellow one as well. Great price, great quality, contoured design so comfortable to hold. The ink is smooth so when combined with the great quality of the pen, my writing is beautiful, no smudges, no skips. I would recommend this pen to anyone who loves writing, and loves pens. If you don't love them, you will after you try this one.

Good deal on a great pen
TL;DR: Great pen; good deal; perfect if your new to fountain pen or looking for a good workhorse pen to carry around. There are already plenty of reviews on the internet about the Lamy Safari, so I'll try to make this a short one.Safari are overall really good fountain pens, from my experience (I own too many of these...). The steel nibs are generally pretty smooth, and interchangeable between Safari, Al-Star and Studio (and maybe some models I'm forgetting). They just slide over the feed, so you can easily change them if you have some extra nibs around. The ink flows nicely, a tiny bit on the wet side, but they can be used on almost all papers without problem (that also depends of your ink though). The pen body is made of sturdy plastic, so it's light, and it features a triangular grip to help you hold it correctly (useful if you've never used a fountain pen, but can be annoying to people who hold their pen differently). If you'd prefer a sturdier body, the Lamy Al-Star is basically the same pen, but with an aluminium body. They come in a bunch of bright colors, between regular and limited editions. The pen can be disassembled easily (the nib and feed are just friction-fit) for cleaning, and they're designed with notches and grooves to help you replace everything in the correctly spot. The downside is that this pen doesn't come with a converter, so you either buy one separately, along with some ink, or stick to cartridges.I got this pink Lamy Safari for 35$ from Stylish Kitchenware via Amazon. That's usually around the price they sell for in Canada, but the bonus with this deal is that you get a pack of 5 black ink cartridges. I'm not really a fan of cartridges, but they're useful to keep around, especially if you're writing a lot and in places where refilling your pen from a bottle of ink is not an option, like during classes or meetings.
