Great idea, but two units didn't work
I sell laminated books that I make by hand so I was really excited when I found this product. The first unit I received malfunctioned before I used up the starter roll of film. It kept saying it was out of film. I had bought several new rolls and it still read out of film with the new rolls. I contacted the company for help. They have outstanding customer service. They tried to help me troubleshoot the problem with no luck. They had me send the first unit back and replaced it with a second unit. The second unit laminated 18 sheets before it jammed. I had to pull out the film and cut it with scissors. It then went to the default "out of film" reading. I replaced that roll of starter film with a new roll and had the same reading. I left it unplugged for hours and tried it again but the misreading of the film wouldn't go away. I contacted customer service again and asked for a refund. The concept is great, their customer service is fantastic, but the product still seems to have some bugs to work out. I really hope new versions of this product come out that work well, because I definitely would consider purchasing another unit in the future. It would be nice if the units could hold more sheets of paper so you have less wasted film in between reloading.

Nice basic laminator, but not for smaller than 6" x 8"
I have a GBC pouch laminator and I love it. It works and works, never a problem. So I saw this and jumped at it. It's big. The desk area it needs is about the same as a laser printer. The directions come on a (laminated) pictograph. Slide the laminate roll into the slot, and close it up.Although the paper holder sliders adjust down to 5" across, I found that it threw a paper jam error every time I tried to use paper smaller than 6" across. Since it's a continuous feed, you could theoretically do a paper as long as the roll of laminate paper. I didn't have that to test it though. With a paper 7" long, it got an error. The feed rollers are too far apart from the laminate rollers and it just sits inside the machine between the two sets of rollers. It fed out 47 inches of laminate with nothing in it before it errored out, so I wouldn't walk away from this until you see that it's working correctly. With a paper 8" long, it was able to grab it and feed it through successfully. It leaves about an eighth of an inch margin at the top and bottom of the paper. It heated up from cold in 2 minutes; and from being used recently in 90 seconds. It has a green indicator light and it beeps when it's warm enough. Even on auto, you need to press the start button for it to start sucking in the paper. When the paper was large enough, it was able to sense the top and bottom accurately. For narrower papers, you have a lot of wasted material at either side. It only trims the lead and trailing ends; and uses the full width of material no matter what. It's really fast, fairly quiet and only smells like hot plastic a little bit.For smaller things, you can cut the laminated pages into whatever size and shape you want. It did not peel apart like a pouch does. There are no directions on how to clear a paper jam, and it throws that error for every issue. Even when there's no paper in it. You need to unplug it for about 20 seconds, plug it back in and turn it on. Then it does it's paper check. I can't find any other way to make it recheck. And it's odd that there's no "okay, I cleared it" button. The mode options aren't for different sizes. You can't tell it that you are putting in something unusually shaped via a mode selection. The mode buttons are auto feed and cut, auto feed and manual cut, and manual feed and cut. It really has nothing to do with the paper size; though you would probably want auto cut on something odd shaped just to be sure it doesn't cut off half your project because it was narrow at one point.I wish it were able to work with smaller sizes, and there were more control over what you want it to do. But if you want something that will laminate average sizes quickly, this works.

efficient and easy to operate!
We finally replaced our old and outdated laminating machine with the GBC Foton 30 last fall and could not be happier! All of our teachers have been able to access and use the machine easily and efficiently. Our school has never looked so good! And the ability to wipe off the sheets we laminated in the thicker weight has been invaluable during these COVID-challenged times.
