Just Delicious, Great, Soft Yet Chewy Texture
The best, most delicious, authentic dried persimmons I have ever had; and I lived in Tokyo 15 years.

* changed my review- one year Rotten - then tried again 1yr later
I can barley stand being next to them while I post and take pictures (stinks!).These either got wet (arrived unsealed zipper bag in envelope from Turkey). See photos. They’re a blue grey and have dark wet patches that are mushy (along w the typical white sugar that forms). Maybe they were not processed well and they became contaminated? Either way inedible.Save your money. I have found these elsewhere on amazon w mixed success. Read reviews! This batch is a new one on me, as it smells kind of like like sour yeasty beer.Into the Garbage it goes.Because they’re hard to find and they gave me a refund for the rotten ones last year, I tried again November 2021. They were wonderful. Soft, sweet, and ranked high in the list of this style (I can not have preservatives) of dried persimmon over the past decade.Goes to show, natural products vary from year to year in quality. They arrived opened, apparently the cousins official thought they looked sketchy enough to maul the package open and retape it closed.

There was a small pebble imbedded in one of the fruit
My daughter ordered one for me and I ordered for my sisters ( in MA and CA) one each as Christmas gift. We all think value for the money is very poor. The packaging is also so poor it doesn’t look like a nice gift to send. Biggest complaint is I chewed onto a small pebble (rock?, about 4 mm) imbedded in one of the fruit. Consider it costs almost $70 a pound (9 pieces), perhaps the purveyor should do more in upending quality control.

if you can't get them from japan, at least they'll satisfy the craving
i figured i had a 50/50 chance of getting the real thing based on reviews. it seems like the product review being positive or negative was very clustered. my guess is they ran out of product and outsourced fulfillments at times? who knows.Mine shipped from Irvine CA. The fruit was beautifully preserved and well massaged to result in a soft supple flesh. I'm used to there being a fair amount of natural sugar on homemade Hoshigaki, but I wasn't prepared for as much as was on these. Upon tasting the powder I'm inclined to assume for packaging purposes the fruit is coated in a supplemental layer of powdered sugar. Though it may simply be that their persimmons are just that darn sugary. Since I don't like them this sweet, I rinsed off the excess sugar and thoroughly enjoyed the treat of having Hoshigaki state side. Will absolutely order again.

Taste and texture
These were not as I expected. They were not as dried as they should have been. They cost way to much for product received. I am glad I now know that I will never order these again from Amazon.

Sorta what you're looking for????
They are dried persimmons but NOT Japanese. They are from Turkey. They don't taste like persimmons to me. I wanted to compare them to the ones I dried and they are not as fruity. I would say that they are an "OK" dried fruit and nothing special. Mine had 8 in the vacuum sealed pack. They are definitely not red or orange on the inside. I cannot say that they are worth $40 for the experience in that I would not purchase them again. If they were super delicious I would say they were worth $25. These are not super delicious. You are paying for the flavor of prunes. You have to decide if that is worth it to you. I support the seller for trying to do business that is lawful and I hope he removes the label Hoshigaki and puts "TURKISH DRIED PERSIMMONS". If he has other product from Turkey I would by them but he should set up a store in the US. Send a Shipping container to the US and sell to Whole Foods. Simple
