beautiful illustrations and rich language
This is the gold standard of children's Bibles. The illustrations are reminiscent of old paintings without a hint of cartoonishness. They appeal to children and to the adults who read the stories to them. The language is rich. I grew up reading an earlier edition of this children's Bible given to my family by my aunt and uncle in the 1960s. So glad to find it still in print to give to my nephews' children!

Great First Bible!
I bought this as part of the gifts for my grandsons 1st Holy Communion next month. My children both had special children’s Bibles when they were little and; it was a great resource for CCD & general knowledge of our faith.I would recommend this as a gift for any child at Communion age.

Great Bible!
I got this Bible for my grandson who got baptized when he was a little older. He loves it and reads it. It reminds me of my childhood Bibles in school. Great pictures and not too much information that can confuse a child. It looked so good after I received it, that I bought another one for any other grandchildren that might want or need it, God willing. Or, I'll just keep it for myself ;)

Finally Found the Right Copy
I cannot express how happy I am to have finally found this copy - but I will try. I, like many others, grew up with this copy of the Bible as children. Now that I have children of my own, a wave of nostalgia hit as I remembered pouring through these pictures for years. I searched and searched for a reasonably priced copy - going so far as to call local new and used bookshops in my area - to no avail.I thankfully found copies on Amazon - but boy they were expensive. I decided it was worth it so I put it on a wishlist to put off for another time. Lo and behold a week ago the "you might like this" had a copy for $14...rougly 80% less than what I had originally saved it for. New?!? I thought it was too good to be true - that this was going to be some cheap copy some nefarious printer had run off on a local copy machine - but it was $14 so what the hey right?Once I got it it was the copy I had remembered and wanted so badly for my young children. A very study backing and spine. All of the pictures faithfully reprinted. NOTHING is missing (except my own childhood sadface). My kids (age 3 and 5) are enjoying the pictures as much as I did - not to mention the words. No more namby pamby kid's bible that tell nothing of the true stories. This is the Bible - vengeful, petty God and all - as the book details in reality.

Not just for children!
As a Christian, I believe The New Testament is God's present and permanent will for all of mankind, so all adult Christians need to regularly read and live a "grown-up" translation of The New Testament, and of course, study The Old Testament, because the whole Bible is about Christ. With that said, I would imagine that many Christians have either spent little time studying and reading The Old Testament, or have forgotten many of the stories. This wonderful book can remind you of the details of the stories you forgot. My wife is a new Christian and finds this book very helpful for simplifying a difficult task for an adult that has never studied the Bible... getting up to speed on God's relationship with man through time - the whos, wheres, and whys.In summary, even for an adult, this will give you a broad sweep through the Bible and is an excellent refresher of prior knowledge or an excellent book for a new believer, before taking on the actual book from which we never stop learning, no matter how old we are.
