Great replacement knife
I lost my pocket knife of many years, and bought this as a replacement. It has maintained its edge. One con, one of the three blades is stiff and hard to open. Overall, I have been pleased

Junk!
The media could not be loaded. Only had this knife for 5 days. I don't abuse my knives, only use then to open packages, slice foods, the basic uses of a pocket knife. This however is not ment for use. The main spring of the clip point broke. It became loose after opening and then I heard a snap and its completely broke now. This is a dangerous failure that can result in serious injury. I usually buy the opinel knives as they are the best in this price range. I will never buy another old timer again! Do not waste your money folks! If you don't plan to use the knife and only use it for display in a collection then it might hold up lol. I wish I would have purchased the opinel since I know they are high quality at an affordable price.

Dressed up Old Timer
It's true. US made Schrade and their Old Timer brand knives are gone. What we have now are the Taylor Brands LLC versions of the Schrade Old Timer knives, made in China. But they are not bad knives, despite the complaints of the devotees of the original Schrade USA knives. The original Old Timers were low-priced and pretty much disposable working knives made for working people on a budget. Over time, they became mythic knives, especially in the years since Schrade USA went out of business. Look on the online auction site and you will find some ragged examples of those knives being offered for many times their original retail prices. Well, that's fine for knife collectors but for the everyday working person who needs a low-priced pocket knife, those ragged and beat up knives and their collector prices are outside the budget. That's where the new Old Timers come in. They now are made with stainless steel blades and they are assembled with modern methods and this is done in China instead of the USA. They fulfill the needs of the thrifty working person admirably. They may not be the finest in fit and finish, material choice or aesthetics but they're reasonably priced and they cut stuff. This 8OT is the "W" model. The grip panels are made of desert ironwood. Desert ironwood is a hard and tough material that also has nice figure and looks good. It dresses up the looks of the knife nicely. This is not the highest grade of desert ironwood available, I admit. My knife has a small flaw in one wood panel that the pickiest of people would complain about despite the fact that this is a budget traditional pocket knife, not a collector's item. I don't expect a $20 knife to have the fit, finish or material in a $200 custom. This is still a low priced working knife, dressed up for Saturday night play and Sunday morning church services.I like the new Old Timers just fine. They're not in the same league as the more expensive brands like Case, Boker, Queen, etc., but they are worth their prices and fill their niche really well.
