as it got poor reviews. We had a blast playing it

Okay. I wasn't sure about this game, as it got poor reviews. We had a blast playing it. There really is no extreme structure or in-depth rules to this game. You are each given a character card keeping your character card secret and you are looking for another character (characters are separated into two teams, good and bad basically), then the round begins. You just talk to one another until someone says stop and accuses another person of the being the character they are looking for. If they are right then the side they are on wins, if not the other side wins. The winning characters pick a treasure card that have random amounts on them, then the next round starts. The first person to get treasure cards that add up to ten or more wins. If you play with a group that are hardcore, serious gamers that have to constantly look at the rule book to see it what you are doing is allowed, this game is not for you. It's best played in a boisterous group of 5 or more people, that talk a lot and know each other really well. As for us, we're obnoxious enough that it worked really well.

Nothing like fluxx.... not really our type of game

I've gotten into playing board and card games with family and friends on a regular basis, and we've started buying a lot of games to add some variety. While we enjoy staple board games like Clue, we really like card games like Munchkin, Gloom, and Fluxx. The Fluxx games by Looney Labs are quicker to play, so we tend to play at least one round a game night, they are one of our favorites by far. Since 'Are you the Traitor?' was also by Looney Labs and more people could play it, we thought it would be a great addition.Bottom line, it was nothing like Fluxx, and for those of us over age 13, it was not a hit! We played a few rounds, and the whole concept is that each person gets dealt a card and is a character, and through eye contact, talking, mind games, or guessing.. certain characters need to find out who to trust or who is evil. Someone guesses/accuses someone of being a certain character, you flip the cards and reveal who was who, that's the round; if the guesser/accuser is correct their side gets treasure/points or if the guesser/accuser is wrong the other side gets points. Reshuffle, hand out cards again. It's all about reading people, and finding tells. There's really no structure. Also, remembering who your character was 'looking' for or needed to 'accuse' was a bit confusing. (We kept passing around the directions each round). It wasn't horrible, we had a few laughs because my brother was able to read everyone at the table pretty well, especially his son. Sadly, he was the only one making any real accurate accusations because the rest of us just couldn't figure anyone else out. We did think it would be more fun if drinking was involved...but for a family game, or sober adults, you need people who are good at reading other people. You also need outgoing people, or they will just sit there quietly. If you think it sounds like a structured fun game from the description it isn't quite the game it sounds like. It's kind of a take off of the card game BS(for short), but you don't have any cards to play, you just sit there and look and talk to each other. Since the one and only night we played it, no one has shown any interest in playing again.Hope I wasn't too confusing... I just thought I'd try to explain the concept so you knew what kind of game it was. When I read up on this I thought I was buying a completely different type of game and was a bit disappointed so I figured I'd write this to help someone else avoid the same mistake.

Just what I was looking for

Fun theme and good artwork. This game was exactly what I was expecting. I'm happy with it. Just wish I had some people to play it with now :P

A Game of Baseless Accusations

Picked up this game since I'm a huge fan of hidden role games. Unfortunately, the structure of the debate is horrible. Once everyone has their roles and there's space and time to figure out other people's roles, there's literally no structure whatsoever and next to nothing to stop everyone from just lying. Thus the debate goes nowhere. My group had to give up after figuring out it's a game of baseless accusations. Would not recommend this to anyone over the age of 10.

Very Much Depends On Your Group

The strategy comes in what you say, and how you say it. Being too quiet, and not paying attention, makes you more likely to be the traitor; asking too many questions on certain subjects may cause people to figure out your in-game identity. The goal is to find someone else without revealing who you are... which can cause some odd conversations. The fun comes from who you're playing it with. In one game, I was able to determine someone was the traitor... because every time someone asked him a question, he started to discuss Pterodactyl Sex as a diversion. In another, one of the wizards spent twenty minutes quoting Gandalf.Of course, with the wrong mix of people, it's a bust. I wouldn't recommend parents play it with children. You want people who won't watch their language or worry about impressing each other, in a large group-- it can be played with 4, but is most fun with 8 or 9-- and with large amounts of sugar and/or alcohol. It's one
