Work SLOWLY and CAREFULLY. Roll back Backing Paper a small amount at a time.
As other reviewers have noted, the paper is very thin and will show any imperfections on the surface. Use caution that the surface is very clean and free of any debris. I noticed a small imperfection during my installation and thought I could possibly hide it by applying a small wallpaper patch first and then covering it with my wallpaper sheet. BAD IDEA. Though very thin, the patch showed up like a "sore thumb". Since my smoothing process was still in process, I was able to carefully pull back the wallpaper sheet and remove my patch. The paper had enough strength to support the slow and careful removal and did not tear. The best advice I can give is to remove only a small portion of the backing paper at a time when applying the wall paper. This is noted in the instructions but may be missed. In my case, I was covering the top of an old record cabinet; the surface being approximately 16 inches by 23 inches. I cut the paper a little oversized as recommended for edges, etc. I then peeled back approximately 2 inches of the backing paper, folded it back out of the way, and positioned the wall paper sheet. Lightly stick the paper to the surface to hold the position. Use one hand to provide a slight tension and hold the paper just above the surface. Using the other hand and working from the center, I proceeded to smooth the wallpaper from the center toward the edge being careful to avoid leaving any air bubbles. When both sides have been smoothed, peel back another couple inches of the backing paper and repeat the process. This process took time, but when completed there were no air bubbles or torn paper. When complete, use the hand or something soft to press down the paper.I have no idea how the paper will hold up over time as I applied it only a couple of days ago. However, it seemed to stick very well. As the 5-star rating indicates, I am quite satisfied with the product and the final results achieved. My best advice is to carefully prepare the surface and remove any defects and to work carefully and slowly when applying the wallpaper. Remember the saying "haste makes waste".

Horrible! Don't buy!
I bought this to recover a mini bar I got and am redoing. I did one side by myself and just figured I needed help making it smooth wheny husband came home from over the road. Turns out its just a garbage product. It kept ripping and just wouldn't smooth out. The roll itself was so creased I was just hoping it was going to be ok when I applied and it wasn't. I only bought a second roll because after cutting the pieces off of the first roll for for to size before applying. I realized I'd need more to cover the whole mini bar. Now the finished paint details don't match the part this was for and I'm mad. Looking for an alternate option.

Goes on well, looks good, very fragile
Pros: unlike a lot of the faux wood adhesive vinyl/contact paper out there, this is fairly stiff and not stretchy, and relatively thin. This makes it go on really well without worrying about causing ripples or distortion from tugging on it, no heat needed, and it makes beautiful sharp corners very easily. I recovered some shelves and went from top to bottom and had really nice crisp sides with minimal effort. Minimal bubbles, and the couple were easily removed by poking with a pin, without coming back. it was a major visual upgrade to the shelves, without having to deal with sanding and refinishing them.Cons: this is extremely thin and a bit delicate, it has the strength of dollar store wrapping paper. tugging on it too aggressively, even when just unrolling it from the paper or removing the initial tape holding it down will immediately rip it, and you have to very carefully stop the rip or else it's going to take off down the rest of the sheet, like when packaging tape splits and you keep chasing it around the roll trying to fix it. if it manages to stick to itself sticky sides together while you're unrolling it, just give up on that piece and move on.also, you lose about 6 inches of it right off the bat, there's two pieces of clear tape holding the roll down, and even if you manage to get it off without tearing, it will leave obvious defects on the vinyl. it's also fairly unforgiving if you start putting it on crooked and have to peel a substantial amount back up and reapply. about half the time it's going to get visible flaws (creases and light spots), even if you peel it up carefully. it's also very unforgiving of surface defects, like other reviews have mentioned. any bump or rough spot in the wood is going to stand out 10x more than it did before. I put a small square of paper over a knotty area in the wood under the vinyl hoping it would disguise it, and you'd think I shoved a piece of cardboard under there from how it looked afterwards.all in all though, I'm satisfied with it. watch for it to go on sale, I've noticed the price on this fluctuates a bit, it's definitely worth it on the low end, less so on the high end.

Worthless
This is worthless. It barely sticks on a flat surface and doesn’t stick at all if you go over a bend. It is so thin that it doesn’t hold up to any use. It’s like buying one of those cheap plastic tablecloths. The only thing I can say about it that is good is that the print is nice. However, the roll is going in the garbage and I’m going to have to find something else.

Held up well a year later!
Last year, we were replacing the light wood pieces in our living room. I had found the perfect board game storage but it only came in a light wood top. I got this peel and stick wallpaper to update that. I used a dish scrubber squeegee from ikea to apply it slowly. It was super easy to do! I applied this a year ago and it is still going strong. I love how it looks and the color is perfect for the updated vibe of our living room.I just picked up a desk from my local Buy Nothing Group and I’m going to buy another roll to recover the top of that.
