This is a very nice, efficient sharpener. Takes a little getting used to pressing down just enough, and not running too long. Makes a long sharp point, which is a little too long for colored pencils, as the long point will easily break under pressure. The top is a bit difficult to remove, as the unit is square with rounded corners. It took a little prying to release the top. Top does turn after being released. I really like this electric pencil sharpener. Its fast and doesn't constantly break the lead off like the Zacto brand. I have tons of colored pencils and it sharpens them better, faster, sharper without breaking the lead. Easy to empty and clean. When it says do not use wax pencils in it I tested my eyebrow pencil to see if that's what they meant. I'm not sure if that is what they were referring to but don't sharpen wax anything in these. If you use colored pencils a lot make sure you run a reg #2 through it when done. It helps it to work well. It's anout4" tall, gray and blends into the background even in my living room. Heavy enough to stay in place but not too heavy.

I was happy to finally get an electric sharpener, Derwent pencils don’t quite fit, so I took a 5/16 drill bit and widen the hole a little bit, Derwent pencils fit perfect and stop sharpening a soon as their sharp! It’s an excellent feature!! I’ve made sawdust from my previous electric sharpener! I like that it sharpens from the top and not the side! The top pops off to dump the shavings, which it holds a lot of, so you can work uninterrupted for a long time! Definitely worth the money once I made the slight adjustment! Great deal!

This sharpener is at a good price vs. performance point. Worth the money. If you put a bit of side pressure to the pencil you can end up with an off-center point, like most sharpeners. That said, it usually works just fine. You can buy a sharpener that has two counter-rotating cutting blades that push against each other and help keep the pencil centered as they cut, and possibly cut a bit faster, but that's no guarantee of perfect results and it'll cost more. So all told, I'd recommend this one as a good choice.As another reviewer reported, it isn't very high-powered, so a brand-new pencil or one that needs a lot of sharpening has to be inserted gently to keep from bogging it down. It's not a big negative, just something to be aware of. It produces a very sharp point, maybe too sharp for small children but great for people who can avoid poking themselves.

I bought this sharpener 2 different times. The 1st time it was great! I had just switched from gel pens to colored pencils for my new coloring obsession and it worked perfectly. I used it multiple times every day. When I had worn the 1st one out I decided to buy the same sharpener again since it worked so well. From the 1st week using the new one. I kept using it for 8 months! Struggling, and sharpening the crap out of my pencils! I have struggled A LOT with this one. I have no idea what was different this time but my pencils get stuck so much do that I had to hold the sharpener down with one hand and use the other to pull my pencil out. It's as if there's something hanging on and when the pencil is sharpened it should let go but it doesn't! It wouldn't sharpen 75%of the time either. I would pull the pencil out expecting to see a nice sharp point, instead I saw it looked worse than when I put it in! It would be short and broken. I really wish I could tell you this is THE best sharpener but that would be a lie. So I switched brands and even paid little bit more...not much. So far the new one works perfectly! Good luck!!!

UPDATE: These sellers immediately reached out to me and offered a new product or refund. It shipped promptly and works well. We like that the sharpener stops when the pencil is sharp (no guessing or oversharpening) and it doesn't take up much room with the tall design. Customer service is amazing as mentioned above. Not only did they replace it, but they reminded me that the replacement continues to have lifetime warranty. Excellent service and am excited to have the working sharpener.This worked fine the few times we used it. Ten days after the return window closed, it stopped working completely.

Hardly use it but so far so good. It makes sharp cuts. I used it to sharpen my pencils for wood work.
