Not what I would expect from Pentel
Color wise...its is exactly what I wanted and thought I was getting. But its very fragile. The color lead breaks very easily. Much more so than normal colored mechanical lead. Disappointed...yeah. Enough to send it back...Nah. I will just switch to the less desirable 0.7 colored lead.

Not bad
The lead is great. It's very fine almost like an H pencil, but is able to give you some degree of darkness when you press on it or if you go over your strokes. It's pretty sturdy lead for writing, but for sketching/drawing it breaks too much. Over all it's a good durable lead for both drawing/writing.

These are not as sturdy as your typical lead but they work fine if you don't over extend the lead from the end of you pencil

Very fragile
I repeatedly broke these leads again and again. I tried adjusting the feed so only the tiniest bit of lead was exposed but I still snapped them.I don't know if this is a characteristic of all colored leads or just this one, but I dumped all of the lead in the trash and replace with regular graphite and have no problems.

Very nice color
i use these with a graphgear 1000, and it leaves a nice medium light blue line. It's not too fragile at .5mm, which surprised me. If you are expecting it to be like graphite, you will be disappointed. It has a more waxy feel

Doesn't break like the red colored lead.
Like blue color. Use it to scribble.

Very nice red pencil leads
I have bought these Pentel red 0.5 pencil leads alongside Uni Color Pencil Lead - 0.5 mm - Soft Blue and Pentel Ain Stein pencil Lead Rifll - 0.5mm - Blue . Overall, I am very happy with the colour and the quality. I recently use coloured mechanical pencil leads for some of my machine learning and handwriting software processing experiments, as they offer very balanced repeatability versus distortion, compared to wooden-barrel pencils or ballpoint pens. Besides, I often use mechanical pencils for drawing, sketching, writing and occasionally for drafting.Package and contents: 1x plastic container with 20x red leads 0.5 x 60mm.I have scanned a comparative sample of pencil leads and a pen with Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner and iscan/epkowa software under Linux:The 2nd picture is scanned in Color Photo mode with iscan's Auto Exposure. The 3rd picture is scanned in Color Document mode, again with Auto Exposure. You get white background "automatically" in this mode.I have processed the 3rd picture in Gimp menu Colors, Threshold tool, threshold=240 and I got the 4th picture. That was the fastest (1 minute) way, I that I have found, for eliminating (all) coloured lines from the picture.Tip: Whenever I feel like my leads break too easily, I go through my top 3 reasons for breaking and potential fixes:(1.) The mechanical pencil is too lightweight — I switch to a heavier pencil, like Pentel Graphgear 1000 Drafting Pencil - 0.5 mm (japan import) and most often this fixes my problem immediately. Apparently I tend to apply more pressure on lighter pencils.(2.) The mechanical pencil has gone unnoticeably damaged (eg tip is slightly bent), or it is just of poor quality — I would change the pencil.(3.) What is underneath the surface, or how thick is it? A single paper sheet directly placed on a desk is more likely to brake leads — adding some more paper underneath usually solves the problem. The leads are fine, but the case is a bit cumbersome and not like when I was a kid. Old cases used to align with the end of the pencil and the leads would slide from the case into the pencil chamber. With this case, I was having to pull one at a time out and gently slide it into the pencil. I don't think I handled my first new-born baby that gently, and I certainly didn't shake as much as I did when holding him for the first time... I was petrified I was going to shatter the leads as they slid in!

Find something else that doesn’t break instantly.
They break if you look at them let alone placing one in your mechanical pencil and trying to write or sketch.

Disappointing
Based on reviews I'd hoped for a smooth and fairly soft lead, these are not what I expected. The red isn't intense, the lead feels dry and breaks at the slightest pressure. Not good.

Good to have colour options
The coloured variety seem to be a little more brittle than the standard leads but there aren't many colour options about. They do present a good shade of blue.
