Q: the seller doesn't know what they are talking about. is the knife that comes with this the kn12 cutting knife? or the roughing knife?

The KN12 is a cutting knife, period..... I do not know what knife you are asking comes with the KN 12, we have the 'Carving Knife Set- 4 piece # KN100; it has the KN12 Cutting knife, KN13 Detail Knife, KN18 Pelican Knife, KN19 Mini-Pelican knife all in this package set. Flex-cut also has a '3-Knife Starter Set' with the KN12 Cutting Knife, along with the KN13 Detail Knife, and the KN14 Roughing Knife. You can also buy the 'Hip Knife' comes only with the KN12 Cutting Knife and a KN02 leather sheath. Then you can just buy the knife alone KN12 Cutting Knife. Hope this answers your questions, as it is hard knowing what product you are referring to in what combination, as you did not list the product number other than the KN 12 and what it comes with..... Q: Can this knife be used left handed?

I am not familiar with design of knives and how they differ for the left handed carver...I would recommend calling our Sales Manager's office with Flex-Cut and specifically ask him or her this question, the model # KN30 Hip Knife; refer too.
