Preferred build

I've tried three different models of lyre and this one is my favorite. The open body has a very good sound. The quality is good and there is more space between strings which makes it a little easier to play. The only issues I've noticed is that A) it arrived with the string at different heights. I had to restring a few of them to have a level face. B) It required daily tuning for the first couple of weeks. Now that the strings have replaced they aren't pulling it out of tune so much.

Solid. As advertised. Would buy again for the price

Nothing wrong with this one! As described and I’ve had no issues. Looks good, not too big, and gear doesn’t slip.

Fantastic sound and a great lil learner lyre!

For not having a raised bridge, this bowl lyre has great resonance and it isn’t difficult to play despite not having the extra space clearance a raised bridge would provide when resting the base/edge against your body to play. As a once-upon-a-time former school orchestra harpist, it’s been fun learning to play this lyre. Metal strings feel a bit weird and using my nails/pick vs fingertips is a very different sensation but I’m catching on. The finish on this instrument is beautiful, the pegs hold firm but turn easily to tune. The adjustment tuner isn’t the best quality (mine has a loose handle) but it does the job. It took me 4 days of playing and tuning it 2-3 times a day for the strings to effectively stretch enough to hold the tuning consistently which is still better than my old student lever harp, lol!

Having a hard time staying in tune

It’s beautiful and fun to play and maybe it’s me but it has to be tuned even multiple times when I have one sit down with it?

Eeeexcellent

I really didn’t have high hopes for this, but I am impressed. Now that the strings have reached full stretch they sound bright and stay in tune well. If this is your first instrument with strings, know that everytime you put new strings on it you will need to take some time to get the stretch out. Steel strings need less than nylon strings do, but if you are having a hard time getting it to stay in tune take some time to play then retune, play then retune. I am having fun experimenting and figuring out what songs I can play. It is harder without accidentals (sharps or flats), but it is doable. As a musician trained in classical and folk music, I have had to rethink how I do music. This is great! If you are looking for an easy song to start with, look up Brian Boru’s March.

Pass on this one

TLDR: First one I got was right after none were in stock so I assumed it might have been a returned item I got. Asked for a replacement, it showed up just as bad. Skip this and spend a little more money on a better one.Full explaination:I order this lyre thinking it would be pretty good based on other reviews. When it got here the first thing I noticed was that the strings were "wavey". That was because the pegs that hold and turn the strings all had their holes drilled in random spots making the string heigh random. They also had drill 2 of the pegs off center which changes the string spacing. This effectively makes the instrument unplayable. If you're a beginner this would set you up for failure.Ok well, thought maybe it was a return that I had been shipped (see tldr) and got a replacement.Oh boy.. well first thing I noticed is the packing. The first one was in a good box, in another sturdy box that said "LYRE" on it. This one was in the cheapest box possible. Also the first one was in a decently padded gig bag and this one was in a paper thin cloth sack. Due to the shipping/packing and change in gig bag it was damaged in shipping. Again the strings are wavey because of the tuning pegs, and 1 of them is drilled off center again. Down on the bottom where the strings come through those holes are also drilled all wobbly which changes the string length. Without getting into string length and such just know that's bad.Bottom line, this is TERRIBLE for a beginner and still bad for someone who knows what they're doing. Skip this lyre, maybe this brand.

Much appreciated by the user.

It was a beautiful gift for a guitarist who had suffered a hand injury. He reports that while he is still learning the instrument, he gets max enjoyment from playing it. It was my attempt to alleviate the depression of losing his ability to play his guitar and it seems to have helped.
