KEENMen's, Targhee III Waterproof Mid Hiking Boots
S**!
Hello Matanuska Glacier!
It's always a challenge to know if your new hiking boots are broken in enough to take on a hike, let alone a glacier in Alaska. I had been a Keen advocate ever since I got their work shoes that broke in very easily and have been durable and comfortable work shoes. I figured these hiking boots might also be easier to break in than my others and they were. So pleased with the fit, comfort, break-in, and waterproofing. I can't brag about these enough. Just walk in them awhile before you take that long hike and you'll thank your boots for happy feet.

Update. Waterproof lasted 1 month.
Great customer service in sending replacement pair. 2nd pair performed much better. We’re no longer waterproof after just a month. At least customer service seems good so far. Quick response to my inquiry but it hasn’t been resolved yet. Could have been an anomaly but still disappointing to have wet feet after 1 month. They glue along the seam didn’t look right to start on both boots. And sure enough they leaked.

Disappointing quality. Not entirely waterproof.
This is my third pair of Keens, but first of this model. They are very comfortable and have little to no break-in time. I bought these boots for working outdoors for a job I started the second week of May. I have had a very good experience with my previous two pair of Keens and did not hesitate to buy these. During my typical work-day, I do a lot of hiking on multiple types of surfaces doing reforestation habitat restoration, these surfaces include going from pavement to gravel to trails to open meadows. Over the 9 weeks that I have been wearing them, they have protected my feet and have supported my arches and ankles, but here’s the bad… They are only waterproof to a degree. If you spend any time at all walking through wet tall grass, water gets in around the tongue and soaks your feet. Because of this, I have had to dry them out on a daily basis in order to have dry feet the next day. Today after arriving home I noticed that on either side of each boot toward the toe, the thin leather was cracking exposing the backing (see picture). I am super disappointed in the craftsmanship of this model of Keen’s, as 9 weeks for $145 in foot wear just doesn’t cut it. Before you say, “Well he didn’t put any leather conditioning products on his boots, no wonder they cracked.” I treated them with the same leather product I have used on my previous pairs of Keens and I do not have this issue on the older boots. Perhaps I received a bad pair as the other reviews here are good. However, if your buy these expecting them to last more than 9 weeks doing outdoor work, I would caution you to invest the cost of these boots in another manufacturer or another model of Keens.

Not as comfortable as previous Keen Mid Boots I have owned. Defective workmanship
Felt stiff, maybe break-in period. Other Keen boots I've owned were comfortable from the start. Use for work. Stitching tore around toe area. These boots have not been used hard or abused. I looked for warranty on Amazon, apparently there is none, only return option is new. Not worn on a daily basis. Should be some warranty for workmanship or material.
