hmmm, better
No where near their best album, some extra bonus stuff, . Last Castle release with bonus OK and has a track not on this album, but the quality of the recording of that track not great. Having listened to it there is defo an improvement in sound. I always found earlier releases, even the Japanese one, very thin and lacking punch. This has been addressed in this version. I think the original was thin to make it sound poppier. The bonus tracks are good and sound fine. Still not a true classic, but better than anything they did after their break up

Prog Heaven
Prog rock at its best, amazing musicianship and great lyrics. Best album of 1978. Love the album sleeve too!

Flawed gem containing thier final masterpiece
To be honest the viny version is a game of two halves, the first side being pop/rock the second a beautifully arranged concept called Memoirs of an Officer & A Gentleman. The short songs are pleasant enough soft rock but for an ELP fan at the time it must have been a big shock after all the genuine prog classics they produced just a few years beforehand. Because of this the side long concept which is in my opinion one of Greg's finest vocal performances and some great music, has been overlooked. This concept is still not prog but time has been kind to it and unlike many prog pieces from the past this one does bear repeated listens. The beautiful piano on "Love at First Sight" is a development from the Chopin piece Opus 10 Etude No.1 and is a triumph with wonderful playing from Mr Emerson and a surprise bit of classical guitar by Mr Lake in the middle, the only bit of acoustic on the album! You may be forgiven for skipping the rest of the tracks on this album but please give the concept piece a listen its one of my favourite things ELP ever did, even my wife likes it and she hates ELP!

Love Beach
I have read reviews of this album as one of the top 100 worst album's ever made, but I have to strongly disagree the album cover is a bit camp but the music while not the best ELP has produced is far from the slating it has received buy it with confidence

Awful
Has dated worse than Keith Richards. And wasn’t any good to start with.
