The Mother at Home Paperback – December 13, 2012

What a wonderfully encouraging book. I want to buy tons of copies and give them away to all the moms - and future moms - that I can!I find it so funny that the behaviors of children that Mr. Abbott addressed more than a hundred and fifty years ago are the same today :) Because of the date of writing (1833) I expected, initially, that the author would suggest discipline that would be more extreme than what our culture/church teaches today but, remarkably, his writing quite clearly expresses a strong desire for mothers to press in to capturing their children's hearts in order to lead them gently and firmly to Christ.A wonderfully refreshing - and timeless - book for moms.

This book was wonderful. Very practical and thought provoking . I intend to reread it. So many examples and I really appreciate that aspect of this book. So many parenting books today don't take this approach. And I found it to be very helpful in grasping the point and also in how and if that would be effective in my own family. Would highly recommend to all.

This book is so different from any other mothering advice you'll get today. Written a few hundred years ago, in the author's world a child's life really did depend on their obedience! (i.e. if the child disobeyed and refused to take their medicine, they really would have died. today, the consequences aren't always as severe) Its good to be reminded that teaching obedience is an important part of raising a child, and even if the child's life might not be in jeopardy, the quality of their life and character is still very dependent on learning to obey.

Content is good, but the pages keep falling out as I turn them. I’m being as gentle as I can. Not sure why the quality is so bad :-/

This is an informative, convicting read. I highly recommend this book to any and every mother and will be reading this over and over again.

I’m a busy homeschooling mom with very little free time.This book is page after page of small print. Zero breaks. Nothing bold.The idea may be great but reading it for a busy mom proved to be too hard for me.I will pick up my “mother culture” again.

Love this book! It's so well written and deals with the heart of the mother on discipline and not just ideas. Gives practical examples and honors The Lord by testifying how a godly mother can influence her children for Christ, no matter the circumstances you face.

A motivational book written in a time that virtue was esteemed. So very helpful in directing a mother's heart to lovingly train and guide her children for God's glory and her future peace. Excellent. I would benefit from reading it everyday for the rest of my parenting years.
