Q: How easy is it for a small person to operate?

This sweeper is a great machine, if you covert to the factory original paper bag conversion. The outer bag is the same dimensions and appearance as the cloth shake out bag, but retains so much more dirt, and is better for indoor air quality. As for use for a small person, it can be difficult for those with limited stature to operate. It weighs approximately 14 pounds, but the air flow and suction really increase the push and pull efforts over the weight. If you are under 5', it may be too hard on your shoulders and back, as it really takes some leverage to operate. Hope this helps!

Q: I just got soft carpet and vacumms do not seem to work, Does this one work with High Pile!?

Most vacuums will work if you have the height adjustment set correctly. The height adjustment should be set so that the vacuum glides easily over the carpet. If the vacuum is hard to push across the carpet, then you have the height adjustment set too low. Thank you

Q: What is a "shake out bag system" and how does it work in real life? Is it messy? Does it spew a cloud of dust into the air when you turn it on?

Shake out bag works ok. It can be a little messy if you are not careful. I own a cleaning company and only use throw away bag type vacuums now. This vacuum did not clean very well. It was hard to get the correct height with how wide the vacuum is. The carpet would lift up and get trapped in the beater bar. Would only recommend for Comercial glue down carpet.
