Pentalic 9" x 12" Pocket Drawing Traveler Journal, 120 Pages, Black

Pentalic Art Drawing Book 12 x9 BlackI don't know why it says "Black" in the title, yes the Covers are black but the inside pages are a delicious cream color!Before buying this sketchbook I bought a Pentalic Traveler Pocket journal Sketch, 8x6 recycled 74lb / 120 gsm white paper. I was very pleased with it, it is perfect for tossing in my bag or backpack, has an elastic band for closure and the paper is very smooth and takes different pens, markers, brush pen without bleeding like crazy, colored pencils without many layers, light watercolor . So I noticed here this Traveler Draw, cream 92lb / 150 gsm, 12x9 " and took a chance. It is awesome! It reminds me of my Moleskine Art sketchbook , which has paper of 111lb and it takes light washes very well. The color is exactly the same, and the difference in the paper weight really is not a big deal, considering that this Pentalic does take the same media maybe a tiny bit more buckle with water. But not significant. It has more pages too. The covers of this series of Pentalic Draw are more matte than the Traveler Sketch, they feel like calf leather, so smooth but not cheap. It is well made. It comes with an open gusseted pocket, as tall as the sketchbook, covering 2/3 of the back cover. I am preferring these types of books lately for on the go taking notes and sketching. The hardcover sketchbooks are more expensive and so heavy to lug around, I'm keeping them at home. Bought 2 of these, they are holding up well. Super awesome.

I love this sketchbook! It contains off white paper, it’s very smooth and large.Unfortunately, when I tried to use my watercolors on it, the paper started to rub almost instantly away. Clearly this is a sketchbook that should only be used for pencil/pastel drawings.

This is a great quality sketchbook for the price you’re paying. It has really smooth paper which I really love and the paper is relatively thick. It was going to be a five star, however, there is one big con for me and this was very disappointing for me. I gave it a 4/5 because despite it being such a well made sketchbook with beautiful smooth cream colored paper, I love to use water based markers with my sketchbooks like highlighters and watercolor brush pens but unfortunately the paper isn’t resistant to bleeding or ghosting/shadowing. So my markers bled through the other side but not onto the next sheet, just the next page. I love to use both sides of my sketchbook paper because I want to get the most use out of my books and because my markers show through, it will make it difficult to do so. :( I will still purchase this sketchbook because of the smooth paper quality which I actually love for dry mediums like colored pencil and graphite. I know a lot of graphite artist love textured paper because it allows for more pigment to be held on the paper which makes it better for blending technique but, I like as little smudging as possible and this does well. Especially since it’s a sewn bound, not spiral it will have very little smudging unless you purposely rub too hard. If you don’t like ghosting at all for your inks and marker I wouldn’t recommend this sketchbook.

This is a lovely notepad. I didn’t get to write in it but it looks and feels beautiful. Unfortunately, I accidentally purchased this when I meant to get something else and have to return it. I wish I had a use for it.

There are times you need to take notes and times you want to sketch. Every executive should spend time doodling, yet finding a notebook that accommodates that has been nearly impossible. So much so, in fact, that I used to make my own 12x9 notebooks.This notebook is at least as nice as Moleskin and for a much better price. Outstanding product!

I order this often for use in a new mother's gift. Good quality. Nice weight of paper. A little pricey but worth it.
