Don’t know why I waited
I should’ve just gotten this pen when I first began my fountain pen journey. However I was a little leery because of the triangular grip section so instead I bought a pilot Metropolitan first. Now while I really like the Metropolitan, I find that this surpasses it it in pretty much every way. Ink flow has not been any issue at all with this pen and in fact, I can leave it capped and sitting for days or a week at a time pick it up and it just writes beautifully. I bought this in the fine nib and the other nice thing about this that I’ve learned to love is how easy it is to change the Nibs to different sizes, which makes it very versatile over its pilot counterpart. I like the indicator window as well on the body so as much easier to tell roughly speaking how much ink I have in my cartridge or in the converter. I don’t necessarily like that it only accepts Lamy cartridges, however with the converter that I purchased that’s really not much of an issue however, the Lamy cartridges are much larger than a standard international and do last for quite a while. The pen itself feels great in the hand and I’m very happy with the color as well. The triangular grip section that I was worried about is actually no problem at all. The price was very good on here on Amazon for $27 I believe when I purchased it . That’s the reason I bought the All Star vs the Safari. The price difference was about $2.00 and you get the aluminum body instead of the plastic. The pen is also lightweight which I prefer and I can write comfortably with it capped or uncapped. It does feel tad bit back weighted, but not terribly so this is quickly become my every day writing although I do have several others now that are technically higher end, this is still the first one that I reach for when I go to Write. In my opinion, this is probably one of the best I’ve used. My only regret is that I waited so long to purchase one.

Great performance at a low price!
Not sure why l never heard of this brand as it has been around for about 100 years but this is an amazing pen! I have been using fountain pens in about 40 years and this is the best at a great price! If you want to try fountain pens, start with a Lamy! Great feel, well balance and smooth!

Gorgeous shade of blue
For starters, I’m a huge Lamy fan. I have about 7 of their fountain pens with varying nibs. Love the feel and ease with which I can write. German made….need I say more? When I purchase any Lamy via Amazon, I find the photos don’t match the actual shade. That’s the case with this one. It’s much more beautiful in person. I’ve had the opposite happen as well - looks amazing in the photo but then it arrives and meh.🫤Clearly obsessed with writing tools!

So content that I bought a second!
I enjoy writing with a fountain pen, but only do so on occasion. I started with a Parker Sonnet, which proved a bit of a disappointment. I couldn't warrant spending that much again on something that I use intermittently, so the Lamy Al Star ended up on my radar. I now own both the graphite and the ocean blue and am very glad that I went this route. The ocean blue pops without being too bright. The pen is simple, but it is also visually appealing, reliable, and fun to write with. It is not the perfect fit in the hand, but it is not uncomfortable. I probably would not use this pen to write a 10 page letter, but it has served the purpose of jotting notes, editing, and general correspondence admirably. I agree that the tip runs a bit thick compared to other fountain pens that I have used. I prefer a medium point personally and think this fine point falls in that ballpark. If you prefer a fine tip, I would go with the extra fine. The refill converter is readily available and my personal preference. I can't speak to the shelf life of the clip as I keep one in my portfolio and the other loose around my apartment. I have had no issues with the cap, tip, flow, or refill converter with either pen. For the price, it's a wonderful option to have around!

Excellent pen, good value.
This is an excellent pen. It feels very solid, writes smoothly and starts immediately, even after sitting for several days. The line weight is perfect for me. There is plenty of ink laid down, but not to the point of being messy. The cap posts solidly and stays in place. The body of the pen is long enough to use unposted if you prefer. The clip is well made and functional. It is secure in a shirt pocket but not so tight as to risk a hole in the fabric. The only complaints are that it is a bit too big for the pen loops in my bag and the grip is shaped so that it must be held in a specific orientation. The grip seems comfortable enough to me, but it may not suit everybody. If you like a larger pen then this s a very good value. I found this one in Warehouse Deals for $21.50.

Hard to go wrong
I was happy to receive a genuine Lamy Al-Star. These are popular for a reason. The quality at this price point is extremely impressive. I would suggest getting a Z28 converter so you can use any bottled ink that you choose, without being limited by the cartridge colors. The aluminum finish on this pen is nicely done, and has a bit of understated elegance to it. The window is great for keeping an eye on ink levels. It screws together flawlessly, and the fit is perfect. The nib is very good quality. A converter makes it very easy to clean the pen prior to use.

Fantastic pen! Does not disappoint!
I love my Lamy pens! This new addition does not disappoint! It's a beautiful color! Writes smooth, writes everytime, even after a week or two of it on the sidelines because I'm getting more pens to rotate through. I love my fountain pens and don't want to use anything else now. Get this one! Excellent sale, great packaging, and fast shipping. Couldn't be a better transaction.

A Mightier Pen.
I've been getting a few different fountain pens lately, trying to find one I really like. The Al-Star is the hands down winner. What a great pen! I'm extremely picky and hard to please, but this pen does it. I simply can't find anything wrong with it. Its obvious allot of deep thought went into its design. The build quality is superb.. It has a perfect weight, fits nicely in your hand and the fine nib writes wonderfully smooth. The grip, I've heard, is somewhat controversial because of the indents for your fingers. Well, AFAIC, they're exactly where they're supposed to be and are one of the greatest features.

pleasurable writing experience
It's a delight to write with. And I m happy to have got a good deal (Rs 2211 .Market price is 3000+) , but I cannot quite figure out whether body is plastic or aluminium. The part where d body is screwed on to the head (nib) part looks plastic

Like it
Good to use and write it with. However the cover can't slide up on the back of the pen. that's disappointing. I always keep the cover at the back of my pen as I write.

Why we love the LAMY fountain pen
I have a collection of Lamy fountain pens, they ALWAYS work and this is fantastic. My only complaint is that you are stuck using their ink cartridges and their colours are TERRIBLE, but you can use the pen convertor which works very well, but it's not practical when you are on the road and or not at your desk. I promise you won't be disappointed, go with the blue ink, as it is the best of the worst. If only Lamy would allow other ink manufacturers or even better make a variety of great ink colours themselves!Oh one more thing, the person to whom I gave this pen too is someone very important to me, and he is thrilled with the opportunity to go from a regular ball point pen, to a fountain pen. Long live fountain pens!
