Lovely book to teach children about other cultures
My 5 year old granddaughter is partly Ethiopian and I got her this book to teach her about her heritage. It's such a nice story and teaches children about other cultures and sharing their own culture with others without feeling awkward. We plan to host our own Buna Bash this summer when she gets together with her cousins!

Teach your children compassion
This is a wonderful book in teaching appropriate social skills to children and adults who might lack them. Almaz was able to manage her emotions by sharing her disappointment with her friend Eleanor and her family. It also teaches children to be resilient and creative to turn awkward experiences at school or elsewhere because they came from a different culture. Almaz turned her embarrassing moments to teachable moments and became an ambassador of her culture. I recommend this book. This review was based on a complimentary pre-release copy

Acceptance
Teasing can be devastating when you are new at school. And Almaz takes a very brave step when she invites her entire class home to learn about an Ethiopian custom. It's a win-win situation: more understanding, more acceptance. We need more books like this.

A Great Book for Teaching Acceptance
The Big Buna Bash is a wonderful story that illustrates the roller coaster of emotions that children face when they move to a new country where the customs and traditions are very different. I learned about the Ethiopian custom of brewing Buna from this story. I love that Almaz and her family were able to share a family tradition with her teacher and classmates.

Lovely story of inclusion and sharing.
The Big Buna Bash is a timeless story of children trying to fit in and find a sense of acceptance in school. It is tough to move to a new school and even tougher when you look and sound like everyone else. Almaz learns to be brave and stand up for her culture and with the help of her mother and sister an Ethiopian ceremony like the children had never experienced before. This is a lovely story of how understanding our differences can bring us closer together.Five Stars!

A fun slow coffee party
At first sight (and read) this book would seem to have a limited audience since it focuses on a Ethiopean custom.BUT, read on! It develops well, dealing sweetly with bullying, patience and acceptance. Why decaf coffee? Quality illustrations. Recommended
