Great Game - Not so great result
I remember all too clearly watching this game on the telly when I was 10 years old. I was on the school football team at the time and I remember going to the Platt Lane complex {about a month before this game} when it was just a shed and a small scaled pitch with 2 five a side pitches running across that and watching the team train {a real funny sight was Dennis Tueart giving Big Joe Corrigan a piggy back} after which we had a tour around Maine Rd, met the team and John Bond and I even got to score a goal on the pitch {to an empty ground - ah well it was during the week and we were on a school outing}. It was an exciting time and the feeling was we could lift The F.A. Cup especially after Paul Power scored that goal against Ipswich who had an excellent side at the time.Back to the match in question, wether you are a Manchester City fan or a Totenham fan this match has it all, real end to end stuff, a bag full of goals featuring 2 classic goals {Steve McKenzie for us and Ricardo Villa for them} - if only the Falklands War had started a year earlier he would never have scored that goal. Ah well Totenham had a real class side at the time featuring Hoddle, Villa, Ardiles, Crooks as we did {Corrigan, Reid, Ranson, McDonald, Power, Caton, Tueart, Mckenzie - err cant remember the rest right now} and somebody had to win the replay. As F.A. Cup finals go this is up there amongst the most exciting along with the likes of when Ipswich beat Arsenal in 78.
