Q: Can this be broken down for winter storage?

Not really. It’s designed to be assembled and left in one piece. The structure is very sturdy. The pillows need replacing after one year.

Q: Is this rust proof for beach house use?

No mine is dropping rust on my new trex deck even with it covered

Q: Do the pads fall off or become uneven? The 2 pads are not connected together and some pictures show tie strings but none securing the middle.

We have found no such problem. Both pads tie at the sides and stay nicely in place. It is a superb product, high quality and worth the price.
