So good you'll play it twice
STORY: If there is anything this game does well, it has to be the immersive story that remains compelling and unique up until the very end. Without spoiling it for you, the general plot of this game is the debate over whether or not human augmentation (through technology) should be allowed. The game does a terrific job of presenting you with multiple sides of the story, be it through direct character interactions, radios playing in the background, or the various emails you can read off of random computers you hack into. I definitely found myself torn between the two main sides of the plot. The decisions I made (and there are many of them) felt genuine, and because most of them have consequences later in the game, they felt important.Overall, to someone who isn't familiar to the series, I'd say the plot feels somewhat similar to Metal Gear Solid; there are a fair share of plot twists and it definitely isn't afraid of delving into conspiracy theories. More importantly, this game takes place prior to the other two installments in the series, so you do not need to be familiar with the series to understand and enjoy the story. If you take your time through the game (reading emails, exploring, finding side quests), this game should take you somewhere around 25-30 hours.GAMEPLAY: Throughout the game, you will earn experience points that you can use to upgrade your character. You can choose to upgrade whatever you want, but in practice you'll probably feel obligated to choose between stealth/hacking or physical/run and gun play styles. Of course, you can have a character with any strengths you desire, but they don't necessarily mix well so you'll probably end up choosing a style and sticking to it or else your choice of augments will feel disjointed and uncomplimentary. I will have to say that personally, due to the ambience of the game and the overall story, the stealth play style just 'feels' right. I can't quite put my finger on it, but choosing to make a rambo type of character just seems out of place. There are about a dozen weapons in the game you'll be able to use, ranging from pistols, shotguns, rocket launchers, and plasma rifles. You'll also find upgrades for them throughout the game that can increase rate of fire, ammo capacity, damage, or even more specialized effects such as putting a laser sight on it or a silencer. You have a great deal of leverage to use any weapon you wish; I actually only used about half of the weapons on my first playthrough which makes me want to play through again just to use them all.The one main drawback, as many other reviewers have noted, are the boss battles in the game. In every other scenario in the game, you can go about accomplishing your mission in a variety of ways, sneaking through vents, jumping up in the rafters, creating diversions or just blasting your way through. In the boss battles you only have one option, blast your way through. All of them place you in small rooms with no ways to sneak around, no computers to hack, nothing. You just have to straight up pump bullets into the boss in order to get past them. I never felt frustrated at any other point in the game except for these couple of bosses. I guarantee you will die at least once on each of them because you can't know what to expect. These fights are completely foreign to the rest of the game and because of this, you will spend a few lives just trying to figure out how to go about beating them which signals to me an ultimate failure on the designers' part. This game really earns the title of RPG because of the character interactions. Suffice it to say, if you don't enjoy talking to NPCs, this game may not be for you because you will be doing a lot of it throughout the game.SOUND: I played this game while wearing surround sound headphones, and let me tell you, the first time I heard a mine explode I REALLY felt it. Gun shots are satisfying and melee moves sound heavy which really keep them satisfying every single time.Voice overs are great; the main character's voice is VERY gritty and I simply love it. The other characters in the game fit the bill as well, I can't say there was someone who's voice seemed out of place or poor in comparison to the others. The music is nothing to write home about, but it fits the game well and never detracts from the story/gameplay, so I'd say it succeeds in what it was trying to do.REPLAYABILITY: Normally I wouldn't include this in a section of a game review because many story-driven games aren't conducive to multiple play throughs. DX:HR is an exception. Right when I finished the game I already knew I would end up playing the game again; not only to choose different augments and weapons to use, but to see how different choices would affect the story. Considering a single play through will probably last you 25 hours, you could easily spend 50+ hours on this game.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CONCLUSION: Honestly, this game is simply fantastic. It may very well be the most fun I've had with a game in this generation. The gameplay and the story are perfectly matched, and the main character is a certifiable bad-ass. Its few flaws melt away, so much so that they're hard to remember once you're finished with the game. If you like shooting games with RPG elements (and lets be honest, who doesn't?) you're doing yourself a grave disservice by not playing this game. And at $20 dollars, that should be a crime.

I enjoy fps a whole lot
I enjoy fps a whole lot. Especially ones that have the rpg element of doing upgrades and such on your character. This one works well. It has its flaws but let me get to good stuff. It feels like a pretty good fps that has its classic view. The mechanics are a bit different slightly a little but after 20 minutes you'll get the hang of it. The story itself is decent. Its not extremely interesting but good enough to keep going. The game is about 40 hours long so there will be a lot going on and such. The world of the game feels a bit unique and I kinda like the futuristic setting. Minor complains is that the shooting is a bit stale like I have noticed I miss a lot when I shoot. Its not a resistance 3 or bulletstorm where the shooting is classic standard like. The shooting is a bit off but that isn't the main problem the biggest issue is that ammunition is scarce. You only run into a little bit of ammunition from dead enemies and in a room. You have to use it wisely and because the shooting mechanic is off its pretty tough (this is what makes the game challenging) the AI is a bit smart. You can fool them and what not and there easy to kill usually 1-3 hits takes them down. But the same can somewhat apply to you to or at least in the beginning. But this isn't a huge disappointment or at least when I played it. It feels right and realistic like. I do wish more ammunition is given at the early start because a lot of players will not notice until later on. I HATE STEALTH and because of it this kinda puts you in a stealth mode and forces you. This is where I give the 4 out of 5. If its suppose to be a FPS I shouldnt have to use stealth like a sucker I want to go in guns blazing like a bad boss. Even though the game tells you "its up to you" apparently it Isn't becausee you are forcing me to go in stealth in some section because there isn't enough ammunition in the levels/rooms. If you like stealth good for you but if you like fps and no stealth this game will slightly force you to do so. Its a bit irritating. For some reason even with that I still find this game very enjoyable because of the realistic like value. I had bought this for literally 4.99 (1 dollar plus 3.99 on shipping) for such a price its worth it. Its a good game to get under 30 (which I think that's the stock price for a new copy) its interesting enough to own it in your library.
