Spectra vs Medela pump in style
These are a great product. I left the following review under the Spectra pump but since I wasn't a "verified purchaser" since I got my spectra from insurance I think it might not be seen. Now I'm using these Flange adapters, the medela flanges with medela valves and pumping 5-7 oz in 6 mins (highly effective in my opinion). I think using these with the Medal pump parts (all from Maymom) is a cost-effective and efficient way to go. It takes advantage of the Spectra's superior pump and the Medela's better designed flanges and valves. Compared to the cost of formula this is the way to go if you are able to breastfeed.Spectra vs Medela pump in stylebackground: breastfed and pumped for 2 children each for a year with Medela pump in style with no real issues, though the milk filling the tubing was annoying and the valve membranes wore out every now and then and tubing had to be replaced a few times. With #3 learned about the Spectra from people at work and since insurance would cover it I received from them. I've now been using an old Medela and the Spectra with the new baby and have these pros and cons to share.Medela pros:- valves work better (though they are flimsy and membranes need to be replaced sometimes they provide a much better seal)- adjustment is incremental (not leveled)Cons:- tubing gets gross when milk gets into it- missing some of the cool features of spectraSpectraPros:- backflow protector so tubes always are clean- light for pumping at night or in dark room- timer (very helpful for me so I don't zone out and accidentally pump for 30 mins)- more different types of adjustments that you can play with (this could also be seen as a con depending on your perspective)- "hospital grade" pump- very very quiet (much quieter than the medela)Cons- valves seem to not work as well as the medela- bottle flange doesn't fit standard bottles (like dr. browns)- jumps in the levels can be a bit intense, I've worked up to L5, but I find it hard to handle sometimes, though the higher levels do get more milk faster- The very slight incremental adjustments of the medela are easier- coordinating the cycle length and levels can be a little harder to manage than the simpler adjustments of the medela.Adjustments:I've played around with different configurations, I am now using the Maymom medela valves on the spectra flanges, I plan to get the maymom flange adapter connector piece so that I can use the Medela flanges with the spectra pump. When I use the medela valves on the spectra I get between 1-2 ounces more in a short session 6-7 minutes! If you go with the Medela (which is still a fine option, and worked for me for two years without issue) I would get the spectra backflow protectors to avoid the tubing getting filled with milk, also just plan on buying some more valves. With a smartphone you can mimic some of the features of the spectra there's a great free app "babynursing" to help with timing of breastfeeding sessions and pumping, and a flashlight on the phone can be helpful at night.Good luck!

Best of Both!
I had all medela part but did not like the medela pump my insurance sent me. My friend gave me the spectra and I bought this to not have to have the bottle that spectra comes with. Best of both worlds!

A lifesaver!!!
This is truly a life saver...rather a breast saver. I have two pumps. The Medela Pump in Style Advanced and the Spectra 2. Pumping has left me in tears because of the pain. In the hospital I used the Medela Symphony and received a Medela starter kit with three different sized flanges which are all compatible with my Medela PISA. The PISA's settings are too strong for me. At the lowest setting the vacuum suction is too strong causing a lot of pain, however I was able to use separately purchased angled flanges by Pumpin Pal that are more comfortable on the breast. The Spectra pump is much more gentle and I can lower the suction setting. I prefer the Spectra, but was in a tremendous amount of pain from the flange. Unfortunately the standard flanges it comes with are 24 mm flanges and are not the right size for me (It only comes with one size out of the box) and you are not able to simply swap out the flanges because Spectra flanges are connected to the valves. There are several hacks on the internet that show you how to connect the Spectra system to the Medela system. This Maymom Flange Adapter is the easiest solution. One little piece and it solved all my pumping pain problems. I can now use the more gentle Spectra pump with my Medela valves and flanges. I took a picture of my set up. Spectra backflow protector and tubing attached to the Maymom Flange Adapter which connects to the Medela valve unit. I have an angled Pumpin Pal flange on the valve.

the seal is very good, I even have a hard time sometimes taken ...
I purchased these adapters in order to be able to use the pumping parts that came with my Medela pump in style advance (PISA) and my pumpin' pal flanges with my new Spectra S1 pump.Instead of doing a "hack" and having no tubing to use my Medela as a back up, I purchased these, and was able to use my new pump with all of my old parts. The smaller end fits into your flange tubing opening, and the larger end fits into the Spectra back flow. The parts fit very well, the seal is very good, I even have a hard time sometimes taken it apart, in order to wash my parts. I use a silicone mat to help me get a good grip and take it apart easily that way. The good seals helps ensure good suction. I loved that I was able to purchase these adapters instead of purchasing a new set of tubing for the PISA.This purchase was worth every penny, specially because I didn't want to change my pumping set up, I only wanted to change the pump. The material is a smooth hard plastic with some shine. It cleans well, you can use a nipple cleaning brush.Overall a great buy, would purchase again and recommended to anyone looking or think of doing to Medela hack to use with the S1.
