Q: What’s with the leather strap? I thought it would tie or something to secure the journal closed…I don’t understand the purpose?

The journal is made to look like it is vintage and from a long ago previous time. Because of that they used to just wrap the weather strap around the journal to keep it closed instead of having a latch or clasp. You can also use it as a bookmark and then wrap it around the journal once or twice and it will keep it close. That is the purpose of the leather strap Or at least it’s my assumption

Q: What is it that makes this "for women"? As a man I love to write and like the look of it.

Books don’t have a gender and this one is blank. I think the only reason they say for women (which I never realized) is because of the tree of life design on the front is maybe more feminine and associated with witchcraft/paganism/Wicca which is normally associated with women (though that’s not true, men are witches too.) I love this notebook, the paper is heavy and handmade but unlined and blank and the cover design is gorgeous. If you like it then definitely get it.
