I don't understand the hate of supposedly "filler" arc
As a reader of WN version, I am really glad that the complete timeline & world-building are not abandoned, better yet the author refined some of the gaps.Maybe I am biased from previous knowledge, but so much information during year 2 (after Shiro got out of the labyrinth) and year 17 (Shun/Yamada's POV) is necessary to explain events and actions of almost every main characters after the elf village raid. In my opinion the story won't hold up without the foundation that is the story of volume 11, 12 (and occasional side stories throughout the series).Well, it's the story of people in the past you may not care about (and I understand that), but the climax (if there is no drastic change from the web novel version) will really be worth it if you are equipped with the world-building the author has done in these two volumes. What I want to say is please give volume 11 and 12 some love they deserved haha.

One of the best volumes imo, up there with volume 6.
this one hurts. this one really hurts. we know what happens already and yet it's still a gut punch. people out there like "oooh when will the story advance" need to be quiet because its volumes like this that set kumodesu apart from other series. being able to get POVs from everyone, and falling in love with every character is what makes this series so great. we already know what happens to the characters in this volume and yet we still fall for them and root for them and hope they can make it out ok. thats what makes kumodesu the best LN series.

Really emotional
This volume is like a clip show. Lots of snippets from many perspectives, many of them already confirmed dead in one of the early volumes. But to see who they were, their worldview, their hopes and dreams, to watch those things come to an end hit me hard. Especially the saint, Yaana. It hurt my heart to get through most of these stories, and even that jerk Bloe wasn't some irredeemable prick. Looking forward to the next one, where it seems we'll be about caught up after the very lengthy flashback.

It's a great volume but poorly timed
If this was volume 11 instead I would have given it 5 stars but the issue lies in that it came after volume 11. While volume 11 wasn't a bad story by it self it should have been a side story for those who want it like daily Lives of the Kumoko Sisters will be since people are naturally more interested to a volume read about Shiro instead of Julius. After volume 11 most people wanted to read a volume with her as the center of the story, but this story was focused on the beginning of the war and the rest of the characters it was well excited and if this was volume 13 or 11 for example I would have given it 5 stars but after volume 11 most people myself included wanted the story to move forward and see the future events instead of the ones from the past.

Great book.
Honestly there is little more for me to say than these books fail to disappoint. Anyone reading this should know plenty just from me saying that the quality has not dropped in this issue.

Why the hate?
I can understand the hate this novel got because it seems like a filler but it really isn't. It's worldbuilding and important information. Yes its detailing "past" but has the Great War even been shown before? It hasn't. There is only the story of Julius's death. If that's the basis for the hate then you should also hate most of the earlier volumes because they happened in the "past." Please consider this as the present and not the future of the elf battle as the present.

Short & Unnecessary
This novel was ok, but was more like a series of short stories. It covers the combat that happened at the Empire's boarder but didn't really add anything to the story at all. In fact, it outright handwaved the scene in which White kills the hero. We end up with no new information about the world or and a very paltry bit of new info about vamp girl. It was also a very short novel, easily finished in a three to four hours. I'd recommend that only super fans buy/read this novel. For everyone else it's not really worth the money/time unless you're bored and absolutely need something to read. Still, the writing was decent and in keeping with previous books. No obvious translation or other errors.
