Q: how long are the jaws ?

Clips tend to have jaws that open a bit wider than the "spine". So, in this case, the spine is a bit under an inch. The jaws have a capacity a bit over an inch. For my purposes, the next size up was better. I think those would be called XXL. I had some old ones, but had purchased XL thinking that was big enough. It wasn't. Not for my original purpose. They are great, though for all sorts of special uses if you track down some fancy, creative web pages for that type of thing.

Binder clips will open to 1/2 inch and hold everything securely..How many sheets of paper the binder clip will hold depends entirely on the type of paper your securing..The clips are very strong..I hope this helps
